Bhakti and Desire

When a person goes towards the outer reality ........... that person

is turning towards the world and then Sri Hari makes him search in

the world for HIM... until the jiva (soul) gets exhausted, dies or

gives up searching and returns to thinking of Sri Hari (or what-ever

name you want to call God) in his own heart and worshipping Him

inside himself... Is that not what prayer is? Dide not Jessus say

that kingdom of Heaven is within? Do not all Guru's send us inward?

Death is a complete return inward of the energies that the Jiva or

Soul pushed outward in order to seek for Hari in the world... When

the search is at an end all beings return inward either by dying or

by choosing to do puja for the indwelling Sri Hari in the

heart.... ... Advaitins call him The Self, Saivites call him Siva,

Vaisnaiva's call him sri Hari, the christians call him the holy

spirit or christ, Islam calls him Alah! Needless to say HE is God. He

is Known as Jahweh, Jehovah, Israel, Adonai and countless other names

Many also call Him The I AM.... yet in english I Am means OM.

TheBible is translated to say that God said: "I AM the alpha and the

omega - (the begining and the end) rather it should say The I AM is

The Alpha and the Omega (yet this is not correct english grammar but

it is correct none-the-less)... thus all religions are made to seek

Him outwardly until they have exhausted all means of finding Him

within existence..... .............The heart may break at the point

of exhaustion of this outward seeking........ thus making the seeker

go inward suddenly ... thus a heart attack is something that builds

up over time due to outward seeking..

So then the heart attack will open the heart to the inner-god or

Hari .. or whatever name we may give God. If that man does not then

begin to seek hari inside, if he does not Love the Self... he will

soon die.

All puja's, all bajans, all prayers, all hyms, all glory rises on the

voice of all beings to The Self in All via sound, and thru the inner

self it reaches Hari Himself. In this way It is Sri Hari who is

worshipping Himself in all beings. Do not the scripture say that the

whole of creation arises from Om? Do not the many religions have a

similar story of God being the Word etc?

So then we must seek Him in the heart, thru deep love, devotion and

commitment to The Self who is called OM or I AM....

Sri Hari gives all beings desire the very moment that a being begins

to look outward from hari.... because hari is now looking away from

himself desire for him in the form of LOVE automatically

arises....Hence when a being chases after desires... he gets more

desire and cannot fulfill them

as chasing them only makes them greater, because hari only wants

himself.

So then as Siva Sutra Says: "By NON-CONTEMPLATION OF ME (OF SIVA

other-wise known as The Self or Sri Hari) YOU ARE BOUND"

Bound to desire, bound to the wheel of karma, bound to be reborn.

because the desire for sri hari (His OWN DESIRE for Himself) who

dwells in every beings inner-most heart, has not been fulfilled..

Hence Sri Hari will create a new life so that the Jiva (Who is like

an effigy or reflection of him) can be the means where-by He can

Realize Himself .... Jai Sri Krishnaaa!

So then dying or living a man will be subject to desire unless he

seeks hari diligently, consistently and persistently. refusing to go

after desire

as desire means he has not found Hari yet... See above i mentioned

that desire arises due to looking away from Hari...

But why does it arise due to looking away?

Well, Since Har is all there is.. he is reality itself........... ALL

OF what is real, and all of what is not real ........... because one

cannot know the real without comparision to the unreal and one cannot

know the unreal without comparision to the real....

in that case consciousness is only possible because Hari is the ONLY

ONE who pre-exists the comparisons else comparison could not be done.

Hence he is incomparable and Non-Dual... because duality begins in

comparison. (it begins IN KNOWLEDGE ITSELF).... Hence Love is Wisdom

while knowledge is merely ignorance.

with love and respect

Namaste _/\_ all.

Here is a small script of affectionate contribution from

'Prema Rasa Madira' - Siddhanta Madhuri, composed by

Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj.

When I was on my pilgrimage trip along with Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji

Maharaj, we stayed at 'Vraja Gopika Dham' in Orissa, India for a

couple of weeks.

On the last day of the Sadhana program, the Ashram devotees sang a

very emotional devotional 'kirtana' from 'Prema Rasa Madira' while

saying 'Good bye..' to Sri Maharaj ji.

The 'kirtana' even made the stone-hearts melt.... Everyone present

there was choked and drenched in tears of Divine Love.

On his couch, Sri Maharaj ji looked very grave, perfectly composed

and in conrol like the deep unfathomable ocean of love and grace,

which ever maintains its shore-limits, in spite of receiving the

endless tears of rivers emptied by his innumerable loving devotees!

I could never forget that scene as the whole event seemed so rare

so special, so Divine and beyond this world!

And so is the 'kirtana' too..

Unfortunately I could only find ordinary words

to convey this nectarine message of Divine Love.

The Vraja-Gopi sings from her heart:

prANa-dhana, jIvana, kunja-vihArI... (1)

O dear frolicker of the enchanting forest, Vrindavan!

O Lord of amorous Love, Sri Krishna!

You are not only the strength and wealth of my life-breath

but the sole purpose of my life and existence itself!!

tum to rahe sanAtana hamAre, haum hum rahI tihArI.. (2)

You always belong to me and I am ever Yours.

Our beginningless relationship is established

from time immemorial. Ancient scriptures have been declaring

that the individual soul, 'Atma', eternally belongs to the

Supreme Universal Soul, 'Paramatma'. This is undeniable fact

and I do believe in it firmly.

The Lord Himself has said this verse in Gita:

gatirbharthA prabhuH sAKSI nivAsaH zaranAM suhRt,

prabhavaH pralayaH sthAnaM nidhAnaM bIjam avyayam

(Gita 9.18)

"I am the Goal,

the Supporter,

the Lord,

the Witness,

the Abode,

the Shelter,

the Friend,

the Origin,

the Dissolution,

the Foundation,

the Treaure-House and

the Seed Imperishable."

ura lagAya bhuja bhari hari cAhe, puravahu Asa hamArI.. (3)

So it is all left upto You alone, whatever You wish to do away

with Your own possession and property! You have the total freedom

and full authority to either graciously accept me or reject me

indefinitely.

You may fulfill my deeply cherished Divine longing

encircling me in Your warm blissful embrace!

cAhe mohi taDapAvu mori mukha, paga ThukarAvu murArI... (4)

On the other hand, as a cruel-hearted Paramor, O Murari (destroyer of

Mura), You have every right to delight Yourself in tormenting me!

Considering me as the insignificant dust particle of Your

lotus feet, You may even turn Your face away in disgust!

jehi vidhi pivu sukha pAvu kariya soyi, mo kaham soyI sukha bhArI.. (5)

Whatever is Your wish, my Darling, let it be. Please do as You please!

I feel greatly blessed since I find my happiness in Your joy and

pleasure alone! I have placed myself at Your disposal for ever with

no demands and I have no desires of my own other than Your happiness.

yaha 'kRpAlu' hai rIti prIti kI, nija sukha caha vyApArI.... (6)

In the concluding line, the Rasik Saint-poet proclaims:

This noble sentiment alone is considered as

the true expression of Love Divine!

Through the words of Vraja-Gopika, the way of selfless Divine Love

is revealed to the sincere seekers. Love is for Beloved's sake!

To love anyone for one's pleasure and happiness is not the

nature of pure love. It is for one's self-interest and indulgence.

It is simply a mundane business transaction of give and take.

When love is selfless, it becomes natural, spotless, motiveless,

unalloyed, unceasing Divine emotion towards the Object of Love.

http://www.hindunet.com/forum_files/59730-vishnupriya1.jpg

Gauranga Mahaprabhu had exemplified this great secret of

Prema Bhakti and revealed to the world the selfless Divine Love

of Gopis in His last verse of 'Sikshashtaka'.

AzliSya vA pAdaratAM pinaSTu mAm

adarzanAn marmahatAM karotu vA

yathA tathA vA vidadhAtu lampaTo

mat prANa nAthas tu sa eva nAparaH

"Whether my Beloved (Lord Krishna), lovingly embraces me, or

tramples me under His feet, or torments me by His indifference,

gratifying His amours in whatever way He desires,

there will be NO abatement in my Love for Him,

because He, and He alone, is the Lord of my life!!!"

Bhakti scriptures have described 'Samartha Rati' - the topmost

achievement of Divine Love of Vraja Gopis as the sublime state in

which 'kama' is indistinguishable from 'prema'.

This means that the divine desires that arise in the gopis (the ideals

of Prema Bhakti), which appear to be directed toward their own

pleasure are in fact for the pleasure of their Beloved, Sri Krishna.

In this completely spontaneous state of selfless love, Gopi's own

pleasure is inseparable as well as indistinguishable from the pleasure

of Sri Krishna.

This song sung by Radha also shows Her willingness

to gladly accept anything that Krishna asks of her:

tomAra garave garaviNI Ami

rUpasI tomAra rUpe

tomAra sukhe je AmAra sukha

duHkhinI tomAra duHkhe

"Whatever gives You pride makes me proud also.

I feel beautiful when I see Your beauty.

Only Your happiness makes me happy

and Your suffering makes me sad."

Namaste _/\_ all.

The poems from 'Prema-Rasa-Madira' are very useful to Prema Bhaktas

(Rasik devotees) who enjoy contemplating upon the Lord, the 'Saguna,

Saakaara, Purnatama, Purushottama Brahman, Bhagavan Sri Radha-Krishna

as Supreme Beloved.

Here, a devotee is PRAYING to LORD KRISHNA, fervently desiring some

thing very valuable from Him. What is it?

"shyama , haum kaba hoyI haum braja dhoori?" (1)

O my Lord Beloved! O my Shyama Sundar!

When am I going to BECOME A DUST PARTICLE OF

YOUR sacred LAND OF VRINDAVAN?

Similar desire was also expressed in the prayer verse

composed by Gauranga Mahaprabhu.

"ayi nanda tanuja kinkaram

patitam mAm viSame bhavAmbudhau

kRpayA tava pAda pankajasthita-

dhUlI sadRzam vicintaya"

(Sri Caitanya Sikshashtakam-5)

"Oh Son of Nanda and Yasoda!

I am Your eternal servitor yet

I have fallen into the ocean

of birth and death.

Oh gracious Lord! Please pick me up

and place me as one of the dust

particles at Your lotus feet."

"hai braja dhoori anga lapatai haum, ura aananda bharpoori?" (2)

O my Darling Krishna! Having been transformed into the Divine dust of

the Sacred Vrajadhama, when can I embrace (smear) Your transcendental

body, overwhelmed in Divine ecstasy?

"jehi brajaraj kahe rasikana maanata, praaN sajivana moori," (3)

The same dust of Vrindavan was extolled by Rasika Mahapurusha as

the LIFE-GIVING miracle, 'san-jIvani' medicine for the blessed souls.

Moreover, I have complete faith in their teachings, fortunately for

me.

"jehi paavana raja paavan kaha vidhi, bhaag manaavata bhoori," (4)

This sacred dust is sought even by the heavenly gods like Lord Brahma

who thinks of himself the most blessed just to recieve this alms of

sacred dirt from Your Land of Vraja.

"tadastu me nAtha sa bhUri bhAgo bhave 'tra vAnyatra tu vA tirazcAm

yenAhameko 'pi bhavajjanAnAM bhUtvA niSeve tava pAda pallavam"

(Lord Brahma's prayers- Bhagavatam 10.14.30)

"jehi lagi bane latan taru jnaanin, tyaagi samaadhi doori," (5)

To receive a fraction of the dust from Your Vrindavan, the great

Jnani Saints and Paramahamsas, giving up their Santa Rasa 'nirvisesha

Brahma-ananda' attained in 'Nirvikalpa Samadhi' by contemplating upon

the Absolute Brahman, assume the forms of flowering and fruit trees

and beautiful creepers of Kunja to SERVE YOU and YOUR ASSOCIATES in

the (Divine sentiment of Dasya Rasa), RASA of SERVITUDE.

"AsAmahO carana renu jushamahaM zyAM

vRndAvane kimapi gulma latauSadhI nAM

yA dustyajaM svajana mArya pathaMca hitvA

bhejur mukunda padavIM zRti bhirvi mRgyAM"

(Bhagavatam 10.47.61)

Meaning-

The great Jnani-bhakta Uddhava, the friend of Sri Krishna has

expreseed his desire in this prayer-

"O Krishna!

How fortunate I would be, to become a grove, a creeper, or a plant in

the forest of VrindAvana, in order to be blessed with the "foot-dust"

of the Gopis, who have cut off all bonds of worldly attachments and

attained the highest state of transcendental Bliss of Divine love,

which is being searched in Vedas, from time immemorial (but invain.

"dhoori dhoosarita tohin 'kRpAlu' kab, atanu lakhaigo ghoori." (6)

In the concluding verse, the Poet-Saint Kripaluji restlessly begs

Lord Krishna,

"When, my dear Lord, becoming the Divine dust of Your Land, when can

I smear and cover Your entire transcendental body with no sign of

recognition?

Then unable to recognize You as Lord Krishna, and mistaking You for

Lord Shiva Who is usually covered with the ashes of cremation ground,

the lord of love, Kama deva, the confused Cupid, the enemy of Lord

Siva would stare at You repeatedly.

(Hidden meaning: When Kama deva looks at some one intently, that

person is overwhelmed with passionate love for his/her lover!)

So, when will this humble desire become fulfilled in my life,

O my dear Shyama Sundar?

Previously, when all the great self-realized sages residing

in the DaNDaka forest saw Lord RAma, Sri Hari Himself,

they developed an intense "desire" to enjoy His Divine form.

Thereafter, they all gained most wondrous "womanhood" of Gopis in

the land of Gokula, and were liberated from the ocean of temporal

existence fully attaining their desired Beloved Hari.
