Here is a 'pada' from 'Sri Krishna Bala Lila Madhuri' of

'Prema Rasa Madira' composed by Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj.

I have selected this 'bala-lila (childhood pastime)' of Lord Krishna

with Bhagavan Shankar for the devotional contemplation by Lord's devotees.

"dwaar ek jogi 'alakh' pukaar,

chandra bhaala, gala munDa maala-bhala, sashi ganga jala dhaar,

ripu ananga, prati anga bhujangani, ranga shubhra balihaar,

naam shambhu, aru Thaamva bataavata, giri kailaas mamjhaar,

ghar te nikri, mahari yashumati ati, poochati kari satkaar,

"sunahu amangala-bhesha! bhaye mama, mangala maya sukumaar,

yaa te jo chaahahu so maangahu, manina motiyana thaar",

jogi kaha, "maiyaa! mai jogi, mohim na chaahiya samsaar,

ihai bheekh de maaya! kripa kari, lakhaum laala ek baar",

maiyaa kaha, "mama laala Daraigo, jogi! tohim nihaar",

"sunu maiyaa! yaha laala tihaari saguna-brahma-avataar",

"tuma to jogi! 'alakh, alakh' kaha, puni kimi 'lakha' karataar",

"maiyaa 'alakha' na kahyau, kahyau haum, 'aa lakha nandakumaar',"

lyaayim laala, yashumati bhori, hari-hara-driga bhaye chaar,

lakhi 'kripaalu' yehi madhura-milan kaham, koTi praana davum vaar!"

Lord Krishna's holy birth is being celebrated in Gokula Vrindavan with

great joy and grandeur. Mother Yashoda is overwhelmed by ecstatic

maternal love for her darling child.

A gopi maiden brings the news that there is a strange looking 'Yogi'

called 'Shambhu' waiting at the entrance door of their courtyard,

loudly chanting with delight, "alakha!", "alakha!" - (meaning 'O

Formless Absolute Brahman! O God imperceptible to eyes!)

The messenger gopi gives some more details of this supreme Yogi to

Mother Yashoda.

"The Yogi is brilliant white in color, with crescent moon decorating

his forehead, matted locks of his hair drenched in Ganga waters, his

neck adorned with a garland of skulls and his limbs are embraced by

poisonous snakes. His abode is Mount Kailas and he is the enemy of

Cupid, god of beauty and mundane love."

Mother Yashoda is very happy to receive the unique Yogi Maharaj and

serves him with great respect and hospitality. She encourages him to

ask for whatever treasure he would like to have as alms, and insists

him to recieve as much gold, precious diamonds and pearls as he

pleases because of the auspicious occasion of her child's birthday

festivities.

But Shankar Bhagavan being totally detached from the material world

replies that he is a renounced mendicant and worldly riches and gifts

are of neither use nor value to him. He simply begs for the alms of

the blessed vision of her precious divine child, Sri Krishna.

But mother Yashoda becomes very disturbed with this request and

worried about the consequences.

She says to Lord Shiva that her infant Son, Krishna is at very tender

age and delicate. Fearing that He would be scared to death to see the

inauspicious, terrible form of Yogi Maharaj as described above, she

tries to avoid showing her darling baby boy.

But Lord Shiva, understanding her hesitation, assures that her new

born Child is NO ordinary Son but the incarnation of Supreme

Personality of God Himself and full of transcendental attributes!

Ofcourse naive Yashoda who is blinded by divine love does not believe

Lord Shiva and moreover she doubts his very own words.

The reluctant mother clevery reminds Shivaji,

"Yogiraj Shambhu Shankar! Until now You have been meditating upon the

impersonal Brahman and chanting the sacred syllables 'alakh!' 'alakh!'

(O Formless Absolute Brahman! O God imperceptible to eyes!)

How is that you have realized that my cute, little Baby is the Divine

incarnation of Bhagavan?

Please do not try to confuse me with your words."

Then wise Shankar ji tricks mother Yashoda saying that he has been

proclaiming loudly the word "aa lakh!aa lakh!" and not "alakh!"

("Aa lakh" means - "come on, have a look!")

He adds that since the same Absolute Brahman Whom Yogis and Jnanis

realize as Formless and Attributeless has descended on earth appearing

in His Supreme Personal form of Lord Krishna and performing blissful

lilas of Divine Love with His intimate devotees, he has been shouting

all along inviting everyone to 'COME and HAVE A LOOK' at the Blessed

Lord, the Personified Bhrahman!!

After listening to the high praises of her son by Yogi Raj and

believing in the good fortune of her precious child, innocent mother

Yashoda humbly brings Baby Krishna and shows Him to Lord Shiva.

Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva fondly look at each other with deep

familiarity of Their close eternal relationship, both of Them being

lost in the divine rapture of rendezvous!

In the concluding verse, the Rasik saint-poet exclaims- "I would

sacrifice thousands of my lives just to have one glimpse of the

overwhelming spiritual ecstasy of my Lordships, "Hari and Hara"

absorbed in Their Divine Union!"

Here is another sweet lila-pada describing 'Milan Madhuri' of Bhagavan

Shankar and Bala Krishna-

"jaya rAm jogI !jaya rAm mAya!!"

Affectionate Mother Yashodaji greets with respect Bhagavan Shankar

saying, "All glory to Lord Rama! Dear Jogi Maharaj!", since Lord

Shiva's Ista deva being Bhagavan Ramacandra and Shankar ji also greets

back with the reply, "All glory to Ramacandra! Dear Mother!"

The entire conversation takes place between them as follows:-

Mother Yashoda: O Yogi Maharaj! Why have you dressed up in a fearful,

scary costume? What could be the sacred reason behind your unique form?

Lord Shiva: Mother, whatever I do is for the sole pleasure of your

child! I am totally renounced and assumed Yogi form lost in the

Divine Love ecstasy of your baby boy!

Mother Yashoda: O Jogi sir, why do you unnecessarily accuse my

innocent child and finding fault with my two-day old son?

Lord Shiva: Listen Mother, your child is beginningless God and sacred

Vedas have been proclaiming this since time immemorial!

Mother: Dear Jogi, why are you trying to get smart with words to fool

me, the village woman? This simple cowherdess has delightfully carried

baby

Krishna for the last nine moths in her tummy.

Lord: Please, understand mother, your child is birthless absolute

Brahman, He

has incarnated Himself in this form for performing Divine pastimes!

Mother: Look at my gray hair, I am much older and senior to you!

What are you trying to teach me now?

Lord: True mother, your Son Himself is the Father of entire creation

including the cosmic creator Brahma whose son being Rudra (Shiva)!

Thus, I too happen to be His grandson and eternal servant!

(Accoding to Srimad Bhagavatam, Lord Rudra was made to appear out of

Lord Brahma's heavenly wrath!)

Mother: Come on, enough humorous talk, take whatever alms you choose

and be contented. It is evident that you've become a crazy jogi now!

Lord: Please mother, I do not wish for any charity from you other than

the blessed vision (darshan) of your beautiful child. Kindly show him

to me.

Mother: O No, respected jogi, why have you resorted to this unfriendly

behavior? Looking at your fearful form my tender son would be scared

to death!

Lord: Fear not, mother! Even the lord of death (Yama raj) himself is

scared of your son! Believe me, your son is God Almighty!

Mother: No way, you can curse me with your yogic powers if you wish

but I am not letting you near my baby boy.

Lord: Do what ever pleases you, mother. I tried my best to convince

you about the Divinity of your child.

Disappointed Lord Shiva left mother Yashoda and sat on the bank of

Yamuna river,

yearning for the vision of his Beloved Krishna.

Flood of tears poured down from his eyes in Divine love.

The Gopis at mother Yashoda's house have also noticed that baby Krishna is

crying non-stop for no apparent reason. They tried for a long time to

pacify

the child through many means but in vain.

So they have finally recognized that it could be some kind of evil

spell laid

upon the adorable baby and sought the suitable remedy from the poweful

Jogi.

Mother Yashoda anxiously invited the Jogi Maharaj to cure the crying

spell of her suffering baby.

Yes, it is a fact that Lord Krishna reciprocates well, when the pure

devotees cry in separation from their Beloved, He too suffers from

their agony of Divine sentiments.

Lord Krishna has DECLARED in Gita 4.11.

ye yathA mAM prapadyante

tAM stathaiva bhajAmyaham

'According to the MANNER in WHICH they SURRENDER to ME,

I FAVOR them in that VERY SAME manner.'

In the concluding line the Rask-saint,

Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj says:

As soon as Bhagavan Shankar received the blessed vision of Sri

Krishna, not only all crying stopped (from both sides) but also the

baby Krishna started smiling very sweetly drowning Lord Shiva in

Divine bliss!

Mother Yashoda too felt very happy and relieved since the remedy has

worked well and her most charming baby boy is back to normal.
