"You will not be a mystic

until you are like the earth - both the righteous and the sinner tread

upon it;

and until you are like the cloud - they shade all things;

and until you are like the rain - it waters all things,

whether they like it or not."

This is to be understood in poetic and possibly highly symbolic way.

By no means would I ever try to present such ideas to people who are

not aware of their metaphoric nature. This might result in minority

complexes and inability to cope with the worldly demands.

That does not mean that what this quote is wrong. I m just trying to

say that it is extremely easy to misunderstand it. Self-realisation

aims at becoming one with the essence of life which is god and which

is ever-present. God is the essence of everything, but everything is

not the essence of God.

Fortunately or unfortunately, most of Sanatan Dharm is symbolic and

can be misconstrued from its intended purpose. On the other hand,

each individual receives a message only at their level of

consciousness.

In a discussion on the Upanishads, and its original method of study

with a guru, an individual said that "Aham Brahasmi" is a dangerous

statement. Several experiences of watching arrogance from the mouths

of Vedantists, from all walks of life and all kinds of students

taught me the meaning. It truely is a dangerous tool, in the hands of

people who aren't ready for it. Again, such people self-destruct as

per Karmic Law. The balance between, realizing the Divinity within

and surrendering the ego, is very subtle, and takes a long while to

achieve.

A moive made in the 70's called "Out on a Limb" caused a big stir

amongst local Christian viewers because they were incensed at the

idea of a person saying "I am God". I understand their point of view

now. I'm not sure whether I would want irresponsible people making

that claim.
