This is a question of seeing the glass half full or half empty.

Why do we forget, that rich and poor happy and sad, kind and

cruel....both positive and negative are part of the universe.

There is no place in the universe where only Positive reigns.

If we remove, rich...poor will vanish... if we remove sadness

happiness too will go.

The imbalance of gunas is the casue of manifestation of this

Universe.

Another question...a poor is poor because of his bad deeds in

this birth or last birth. Our Hinduism says we reap what we sow.

Hence if there are people sad and in distress...they should be

reaping their own karma.

Now if we try to help them...would it not amount to interefering

in the works of Nature, who wishes to keep them in distress.

Is charity not a sort of pampering our own Ego?? When we see a

begger or a person in pains, do we not feel ourselves having upper

hand ?

NOw as a human being, we are supposed to be kind and helping...so

the situation is a Catch 22. If we help the needy we are

interferring into the work of Nature, and if we do not, we become a

sinner in our own eyes and in the eyes of the society.

so what is the way out??

Namaste,

you try , by this questions....find a way out of your Karma...

Karma let people have endless plans and projects and theories about

life....and Karma let them stay being in the identification of an ego-

mind so

....as long as there is still Karma...

means...as long as the identification with body-mind-intellect

confuse the mind.....

what's your real identity?....

maybe if you find an answer to this question......then you will

know....."who" will help "whom" in need........

.....you "think" maybe that you have the choice....that "you" can

choose an "attitude"....

but you can't escape your Self...and your heart.....which let

you "seek" the right attitude....until you find inner peace....with It

but if you want a "real" answer to your question....

maybe only "God" can give you....and let you have the right attitude

you can "see God"...wherever your heart is looking at....

Regards and love

Dear all

I have been reading Ramakrishna kathamrita these days

here Ramakrishna warns against too much philanthropy as a powerful ego booster

he says that charity / material help to others should be given when absolutly

nessesary otherwise not.

Did Ramakrishna help Vivekananda economically ( he could have through some of

his richer diciples) .... No he did not... he told Vivekananda to ask godess

kali for money if he so wished. Knowing fully well Vivekananda will fail to do

so.And so it happened.

He helped spiritually and not materially.

If a person is spiritually fortified/strengthed then he can withstand any

material hardship and not be overwhelmed by it.

comming to the question

"so what is the way out??"

1.If we want to and help the needy/distressed

what if we think it is the lord who is actually helping him through me and "i am

not the doer" Thus preventing ego from arising.

2.If we do not help

well it is in gods scheme of things for him/her to suffer

He/she is working out his/her negative karma so thus actually progressing

towards better times. So why feel sad/sorry

Trying not to interfier with nature is propably the better option.

Do we not create further imbalance of gunas by our interference with nature ?

atleast we create a lot of karma for ourselfs.

dear friends

Karma yoga or Service is to be done to Lord in human form, which consists of

donating money (karma phala tyaga) and physically participating in His divine

knowledge propagation (karma sanyasa).

Karma sanyasa does not mean leaving the karmas, but leaving the selfish karmas

and serving the lord in human form by physical service without aspiring anything

in return.

last time also, you are confused with worldly love and devotion on Lord. Every

human being is not lord and so service to human being is not service to lord.

all these words devotion, karma phala tyaga, karma sanyasa ....are in reference

to human form of Lord only but not to human beings.

A poor man is suffering and poverty is the punishment given for the previous sin

committed by the soul. If such a poor person is helped, it amounts to

interference in the administration of God. The punishment is given for a change

and you need not sympathise it. The parental love of the Lord is greater than

your brotherly love. Only the grace of God can end the punishment forever.

Therefore you preach divine knowledge and devotion and then assist that poor

person.

The divine knowledge and devotion will bring a change in him and you have served

the purpose of the punishment. Then God is pleased with you and also will show

grace on that poor person. The poverty will vanish forever. Therefore social

service must be integrated with spiritual mission. Sankara told the same (Loka

sevaka matha khandanam) and Mother Theresa did the same. Mere social service is

like a simple boarding and lodging given to the hostel students without the

primary teaching in the classes. Therefore, the aim of terrorism gives only

temporary and apparent relief whereas the spiritual mission based social work is

a permanent solution. The discoveries of scientists without any spiritual basis,

which were expected to serve the society, have harmed the society. If one reads,

the latest environmental science, it becomes clear.

Corruption is grabbing the wealth of others for the sake of comforts of one’s

own body and one’s own family. The body is like a seat in the train and you are

the soul like the passenger. The family members are like just benchmates in the

same train. For the comfort of yourself and of your benchmates, you are

troubling the other passengers in the train and this is corruption. Life is just

a matter of one-hour train journey. Your benchmates will get down at their

respective destinations and will not remember you. You have to leave your seat

also. After the death, you have to leave the family members who do not recognise

you in the next birth.

After getting down from the train, you have to face the interview with God,

which leads you to permanent happiness or misery. Therefore, you must

concentrate on the preparation of interview even during journey and not on the

comforts of your seat and benchmates. The bonds with benchmates are temporary

and unreal. Sankara says that whatever is temporary must be unreal. The bond,

which did not exist before and will not exist in future, does not exist in the

present time also. Such spiritual realisation can only give a permanent control

of corruption.

True to some extent but if you follow the path of Karma Yoga

,one is

not really pampering the "ego" ,

I think Lord's Lila is misunderstood here. It is a two prong operation, like

"killing two birds with one stone". While the poor man is suffering due to

his past Karmas, thus abating the effects thereof, the all wise Lord is

offering an opportunity to those who are in a position to help others, to

show compassion and help minimize the suffering of those in need, thus

creating their own good Karmas. This is how I understand it.

Dear all,

I got this much message only and my comments are as

follows,

1. First thing is as per the law of "karma" the poor

man is suffering poverty becoz of his own "deeds" in

his past life. I agree with this.

2.Now if anybody helps him by any means, its mercy of

the person who is helping him, which may give good

results for the helping person in this life or future

life.It again greatly depends on the helping person is

which intension he is helping (sakam or nishkam?).Even

this turns true when doing bhakti (with material

intensions or spiritual?)

3.Now lets see the nature of god in the view of

nirguna status ==it is "nirguna(threre are no three

gunas,(satva,raja,tama),nirakara(no any particular

shape or figure),NIrvikalpa (without any

desire, choice, wish etc) then how one can say the god

is administering or it is intereference? The supreme

power is beyond doings and undoings.

4.Now if we come down a step below from nirguna to

saguna,if we say god in saguna status ==god has been

appearing in three main gods "brahma, vishnu and shiva

"satva raja tama gunas"

All the three gods handle creating, maintening and

disposing activities of nature.and offer results in

terms of lifespan of indivisual with respect to their

own "karmas" again. This simplifies that if we do good

karmas we get good furture life and for bad karmas bad

life.So its very clear that these supreme level gods

has offered freedom to indivisual to choose there own

karmas to plan there future life. So intereference in

the administration is out of question.

5.Again Having a particular life is indivisual

choice. One may choose godly or devil or simple human

life and enjoy or suffer with it.If somebody helps

other person means the helping person gets upliftment

in his life may be because of improvement in his

satvaguna which is closest to spiritual progress or

just coz of human social qualities.

i support,one has to help other,which is definately a

human quality irrespective to think about interference

of godly controles or future life.
