Guest guest
Namaste _/\_ all. Happy Guru-vaar. Let us reflect upon the teachings of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada's 'Bhaja Govindam': kA te kAntA kaste putraH saMsAro 'yam atIva vicitraH kasya tvaM kaH kuta AyAtaH tattvaM cintaya tadiha bhrAtaH (8) bhaja govindaM, bhaja govindaM, govindaM bhaja mUDhamate! Who is your wife (husband)? Who is your son (daughter)? Supremely WONDERFUL indeed is this (samsara) entanglement! Of WHOM are you? >From where have you come? O brother (sister), think of that TRUTH here! Seek Lord Govinda, Seek Govind, Seek Beloved Govinda, O Fool! kastvaM ko 'haM kuta AyAtaH kA me jananI ko me tAtaH iti paribhAvaya sarvam asAraM vizvaM tyaktvA svapna vicAram (23) bhaja govindaM, bhaja govindaM, govindaM bhaja mUDhamate! Who are you? Who am I? >From where did I come? Who is my mother? Who is my father? Thus ENQUIRE, leaving aside the ENTIRE world-of-experience (vishvam), essenceless and MERE dreamland born of imagination (svapna vicaaram). Seek Lord Govinda, Seek Govinda, Seek Beloved Govinda, O Fool! Poetic version of the same verse: Who is your wife and who is your son?? This world-of-changes, know, is a wonder of wonders Of whom are you?...whence have you come? Brother, think of the TRUTH...here and now!! (8) Who are you?...Who am I?...Whence are we? Who is my mother?...Who the father? ENQUIRE thus WITHIN, CASTING OFF THE NONESSENTIAL... The world entire...the phantasy of MERE DREAM! (23) Seek the Lord, Seek, Seek, Seek the Lord, Seek alone the Lord...O mud-headed fool! viSayAn dhyAyataz cittaM viSayeSu viSajjate mAm anu smara zcittaM mayyeva pravalIyate Srimad Bhagavatam 11.14.27 Lord Krishna beautifully reveals- "The MIND of a man who thinks of material objects and worldly subjects is attached to them, but the mind of one who remembers Me is merged in Me alone. tasmAd asad abhidhyAnaM yathA svapna manorathAM hitvA mayi samAdhatsva mano mad bhAva bhAvitam Srimad Bhagavatam 11.14.28 So the Lord carefully instructs His devotee, Uddhava: "Therefore, giving up dwelling on "unreal things" and not attaching your mind to worldly desires, persons and subjects which are no better than dreams or fancies (svapna mano-ratham), concentrate your heart and mind upon Me alone, with Divine emotional attachment for Me. Uma ______ Sun, 02 Oct 2005 21:37:56 -0000 "roopika_devi" <roopika_devi "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi Re: Mera Bharat Mahaan !! Greetings Mahasajjano! I was just passing by and couldnot help reading some of the posts in this august forum. Qood Question posed by Tat Twam Asi How do we care for our disadvantaged and unfortunate? Exactly ! We can all sit in our armchair and close our eyes and pretend all is well with the world when we know for a fact that our own Countrymen ( Bharat Vasis) are living in dire poverty, filth and squalor - with no food to eat, no roof over their heads and roaming about naked with no clothes to wear. Is this the Bharat we want to be proud of ? Today is Mahatma Gandhiji's birthday. Let us recall what Gandhiji once said ... "If all the Upanishads and all the other Scriptures happened all of a sudden to be reduced to ashes, and if only the first verse in the Ishopanishad were left in the memory of the Hindus, Hinduism would live forever" The first verse of Ishopanishad states Om Isavasyamidam sarvam yatkiñca jagatyam jagat | tena tyaktena bhuñjitha ma grdhah kasyasvid dhanam 1 Swami Paramananda translates this verse thus "All this, whatsoever exists in the universe, should be covered by the Lord. Having renounced (the unreal), enjoy (the Real). Do not covet the wealth of any man. We cover all things with the Lord by perceiving the Divine Presence everywhere. When the consciousness is firmly fixed in God, the conception of diversity naturally drops away; because the One Cosmic Existence shines through all things. As we gain the light of wisdom, we cease to cling to the unrealities of this world and we find all our joy in the realm of Reality. The word "enjoy" is also interpreted by the great commentator Sankaracharya as "protect," because knowledge of our true Self is the greatest protector and sustainer. If we do not have this knowledge, we cannot be happy; because nothing on this external plane of phenomena is permanent or dependable. He who is rich in the knowledge of the Self does not covet external power or possession." Everything on this planet belongs to God ( ishavasya idam sarvam) and *nothing* to humans . So, why so much poverty in the midst of so much afluence? The answer is human Greed and Avarice and Coveteousness. I invite comments on this from Tat Twam Asi and other members on how to deal with this perennial problem. Aum Santi! Santi ! Santihi! Guest guest
For some reason this individual is able to read posts but doesn't post it herself on the board. Maybe this is our famous "well_wisher" in a different ROOP! Or maybe its some game.. or maybe the individual doesn't know much about message boards. Whatever.. here it goes.. Uma ------------------ Tue, 04 Oct 2005 22:28:20 -0000 "roopika_devi" <roopika_devi "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi Re: Mera Bharat Mahaan !! Uma, Thank you for posting my email on the message board. I note Beirut ka Baba has responded to this. He observes "Is charity not a sort of pampering our own Ego?? When we see a begger or a person in pains, do we not feel ourselves having upper hand ?" True to some extent but if you follow the path of Karma Yoga ,one is not really pampering the "ego" , for the karma yogi, there is no "ego" to pamper as he /she is doing his/her duty without expecting any fruits for his/her actions. So, the right hand goes on giving without the left hand knowing about it. In other words, we have no "hand" in the results of our action nor should be Name or Fame the motive in discharching our duties. As far as thinking that a man is poor because it is his Destiny to be poor because of past Karma , i do not buy that theory in one bit. Inequality of incomes is a curse on society and it is the duty of the wealthy to help their poor brethren. There is a thing called Agami karma also besides Sanchita karma. So, think about the following factors while performing Karma yoga 1)Abandonment of, or evenness of mind towards, results good or bad; 2)Dedicating, or consigning or depositing, results of actions, to Lord Krishna 3)Dedicating, the actions themselves to Lord Krishna 4)Having no personal motive for actions; such as Name , fame, or egho- building 5) Giving up attachment to action as such; 6)giving up attachment to inaction. Finally, one cannot teach a Drowning man how to swim ; However , after saving him, teach him how to swim. Also, offer him a fish first to ward off hunger then teach him how to fish and fend for himself. My 2 cents. Hari AuM! , "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi> wrote: > This post was sent to my email box. Guest guest
Q) Sacrificing the ambition on the fruit of the work is sufficient. It is not necessary to sacrifice the fruit of the work as per Gita. Is it not correct? A) In the very beginning itself (second Adhyaya) Gita says that the fruit of the work must be sacrificed (Karmajam Buddhi Yuktahi Phalam Tyaktva Maneeshinah). This means that realized scholars sacrifice the fruit of the work. Gita keeps sacrifice of the fruit of the work on the top most level (Dhyanath Karma Phala Tyagah). According to Veda sacrifice of fruit of work means sacrifice of money only (Dhanena Tyagenaike). Karma Phalam means self-earned money with which the man is more attached. Reason for the inability to do the sacrifice of fruit of work (Karma Phala Tyaga) is the selfish ambition for the fruit of the work. Therefore if the selfish ambition is removed, the fruit of the work can be easily sacrificed. It is funny to enjoy the fruit of work and say that he has no ambition for the fruit of the work. In such case you must also enjoy the fruit of your sin in the hell i.e., cutting of your muscles by knife etc., without any selfish ambition. Saktuprastha was tested in the sacrifice of the fruit of the work, which alone can prove the lack of selfish ambition for the fruit of the work. If one says that he has sacrificed the ambition for the fruit of the work and yet, enjoys the fruit of work is trying to fool the author of Gita. In turn the Lord will fool him in the hell. at the lotus feet of shri datta swami surya pyari_h <no_reply> wrote: O Fool! Give up the THIRST to possess material wealth !!
