Namaste all.

hari anurAga virAga jaga apuhim Apu na hoya,

mana te bhajana kiye binA bhakti na pAve koya!

Detachment from the world and devotion

to Lord Hari do not happen automatically !

Without the involvement of one's mind in worship

and prayer no one can attain pure devotion.

- Bhakti Shatak 14

Among the two kinds of devotional practice,

one being 'anAsanga bhakti'-

done simply with external sense organs without putting mind and heart

into it

and the other being 'sAsanga bhakti' done with all senses together

with mind.

Sasanga Bhakti alone is superior !

Sri Kripaluji Maharaj has been stressing the extreme importance of

'Smarana',

affectionate remembrance of the Lord in devotional practice, in

'sadhana bhakti'.

He often recites these beautiful verses from scriptures to stregthen

the true

understanding of its importance.

SB 1.2.14

tasmAd ekena manasA

bhagavAn sAtvatAM patiH

zrotavyaH kIrtitavyaz ca

dhyeyaH pUjyaz ca nityadA

Therefore, with one-pointed attention of mind,

one should constantly hear about, glorify,

remember and worship the Supreme Lord

Who is the Beloved of saintly devotees.

tasmAt sarvAtmanA rAjan

hariH sarvatra sarvadA

zrotavyaH kIrtitavyaz ca

smartavyo bhagavAn nRNAm

SB 2.2.36:

O King, it is therefore essential that every human being

with all his heart and soul hear about, glorify and

remember the Supreme Lord Hari always and everywhere.

Gauranga Mahaprabhu Himself mentioned about smarana

in the second verse of 'Sikshashtaka'-

nAmnAmakAri bahudhA nija sarva sakti

statrArpita niyamitaH smaraNe na kAlaH

yetAdRzI tava kRpA bhagavan mamApi

durdaivamI dRzam ihAjani nAnurAgaH

Mahaprabhu wanted us not only to do chanting,

but remembrance also and there are

no limitations of time and place for the remembrance!

Just as Lord Krishna said in Gita - 8.7

tasmAt sarveSu kAleSu

mAm anusmara yudhya ca

mayy arpita-mano-buddhir

mAm evaiSyasy asaMzayaH

Therefore, Arjuna, you should always remember Me

while carrying out your activity of fighting.

With your activities dedicated to Me and

your mind and intelligence surrendered to Me,

you will attain Me without doubt.

bandhana aur mokSa kA kAraNa mana him bakhAn,

yAte kaunihu bhakti karu karu "mana" te hari dhyAn

The mind alone is the cause of all bondage and Liberation!

Therefore, the involvement of mind in Divine contemplation is

absolutely necessary for whatever process of devotion one practices !!

One should perform all devotional practice with body and senses

engaging the heart and mind in remembering the Lord.

Namaste.

Here is an interesing verse to reflect upon:

mana mAyA te hI banyo, mAyA te sansAra,

yAte mana bhAvata sadA yaha sansAra asAra! '

The mind has been created by Maya and the

material world is also a visible product of Maya!

Therefore, the mind has spontaneous

affinity to the material world!

So always reflect upon this fact and realize

the material world is devoid of spiritual essence.

- Bhakti Shatak, 36

These philosophical facts are also revealed in the verses

of Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

yad idaM manasA vAcA

cakSurbhyAM zravaNAdibhiH

nazvaraM gRhyamANaM ca

viddhi mAyA-mano-mayaM

SB 11.7.7

Lord Krishna said :

My dear Uddhava, the entire universe that you perceive through your

mind, speech, eyes, ears and other senses is an illusory creation that

one accepts to be real due to the influence of maya.

In fact, you should know that all of the objects of the material world

are temporary

and unreal, and the mind is pervaded by the illusion of Maya.

naitad vastutayA pazyed

dRzyamAnaM vinaSyati

asakta-citto viramed

ihAmutra-cikIrSitAt

yad etad Atmani jagan

mano-vAk-prANa-saMhatam

sarvaM mAyeti tarkeNa

sva-sthas tyaktvA na tat smaret

SB 11.18. 26, 27

One should never see as real the material objects and subjects which

obviously will perish. With heart and mind free from attachment to

unreal, one should retire from all activities meant for temporary

results in this life and the next.

One should logically consider the material universe which appears to

be existing for the spirit soul, and one's own material body composed

of mind, speech and life-breath, to be ultimately products of the

Lord's illusory power. Being situated in one's own spirit self, one

should give up these material things and one should never think of nor

even remember them.

Whatever power, beauty, fame, opulence, humility, renunciation,

sacredness, pleasure, fortune, strength, tolerance or wisdom there may

be, is simply an expansion of My great power of Maya.

I have briefly described to you all great material features of My

creation, which are perceived by each individual material mind and

expressed in different ways according to its own perversions, as the

mind itself is Mayic and not spiritual.

11.16. 40, 41

manaH sRjati vai dehAn

guNAn karmANi cAtmanaH

tan manaH sRjate mAyA

tato jIvasya saMsRtiH

The different material bodies, good or bad qualities and pious or

impious desires as well as activities of the spirit soul are all

created by the material mind. That mind itself is created by the

illusory power of the Supreme Lord, and thus the soul assumes unreal

material existence.

SB 12.5.6

Bhagavad Gita 7.4: Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence

and false ego -- all together these eight constitute My separated

material energies.

Bhagavad Gita 7.5: Besides these, O mighty-armed Arjuna, there is

another, superior energy of Mine, which comprises the living entities

who are utilizing the resources of this material, inferior nature.

mana eva manuSyANAM karaNaM bandha mokshayaH

- Pancadazi, Sri Vidyaranya Swami

Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.

Bhagavatam also says:

cetaH khalvasya bandhAya muktaye cAtmano matam,

guNeSu saktaM bandhAya rataM vA puMsi muktaye

Bhagavatam 3.25.15

The stage in which the consciousness of the living being is attached

by the three modes of material nature is called conditional life.

But when that same consciousness is attached to the Supreme Person,

the living being is free in liberation.

A few quotes from 'Viveka Chudamani' in this regard:

There is no such thing as ignorance beyond the thinking mind.

Thought is itself ignorance, the cause of the bondage of becoming.

When thought is eliminated, everything else is eliminated.

When thought increases everything else increases. 169

In deep sleep when the thinking mind has gone into abeyance

there is nothing, by every one's experience,

so man's Samsara is a mind creation, and has no real existence. 171

Cloud is gathered by the wind, and is driven away by it too.

Bondage is imagined by the mind, and liberation is imagined by it

too. 172

By dwelling with desire on the body and other senses

the mind binds a man like an animal with a rope, and

the same mind liberates him from the bond by creating

simple distaste for the senses as if they were poison. 173

- Viveka Chudamani - Jagadguri Sri Adi Shankara Acarya

Namaste all.

sabai zakti hai nAmame man! nizidin ArAdh,

pai zakti na lAbh tin kiye nAma aparAdh.

- Bhakti Satak. 18

"O mind! Day and night constantly chant the Names of the Lord,

as His Name contains all His transcendental powers.

But remember, one who commits an offense against the Names

cannot derive any benefit from these powers."

There are ten 'Nama-aparadha', offenses against the Divine Name.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had composed this verse -

nAmnAm akAri bahudhA nija sarva zaktis

tatrArpitA niyamitaH smaraNena kAlaH

etAdRzI tava kRpA, bhagavan mamApi

durdaiva mI dRzamihA' jani nAnurAgaH

Lord Caitanya, knowing the misfortunes of the jivas of Kaliyuga,

gave Krishna-Prema through His Names.

He says there is no difference between the Lord's Names and Himself.

Nama is 'Akaari', the Divine form also, with all the powers of Lord

being

invested in His Name.

But only the devotee, whose faith is hundred per cent can experience

this truth of Divine Name.

Actually, Lord is very kind and He made this provision for devotees

to associate with Himself through His Names.

But the worldly people have no desire for the Lord nor for His Name.

That is their greatest misfortune.

The most important Namaparadhas are to think that Names of the Lord

and

the Lord Himself are to be different and having no faith in the

transcendental

power of Divine Names.

When this offense is committed how can the sadhak (seeker) derive

the Blissful experience of the Divine Name?

Of course, faith of devotees is of different degrees.

The more one believes in the 'one-ness of the Name and the Naami', the

more 'lAbha' of spiritual benefit and blissful realization for one.

Otherwise not much peace nor joy is achieved by the seekers.

Purification of the 'antahkarana' consisting of mind, heart,

intellect and ego can only be done through Prema Bhakti, Divine Love.

"zuddhayati nAntarAtmA kRSNa padAmbhoja bhaktimRute"-

('Prabodha Sudhakar'- Jagadguru Sri Sankaracarya)

The 'antaratma' (heart, mind, intellect and ego) cannot be completely

purified without Sri Krishna Bhakti, loving devotion to Lord Krishna.

All other external methods and rituals of purfication are simply a

waste.

Lord Krishna has also proclaimed this in Bhagavatam 11.14.21 & 22.:

"Only by practicing Divine Love with full faith in Me can one attain

Me, the Supreme Lord. I am naturally dear to My devotees, who take Me

as the only goal of their loving devotion. By engaging in such pure

devotion, even the dog-eaters can purify themselves from their sinful

nature.

Neither religious practice endowed with truthfulness and kindness nor

subtle knowledge obtained through great penance can completely purify

one's consciousness if they are bereft of loving devotion to Me."

So lovingly chanting the Names of the Lord remembering the Divine

Beloved will purify the inner conscience of the aspirants.

In relation to the verse of Bhakti Shatak. 18. I like to remind a few

more sublime verses from Srimad Bhagavatam glorifying Divine Love

Devotion

and Nama Sankirtana of the Lord:

"Having critically studied Vedas with concentrated mind thrice over,

Lord Brahma concluded by force of reason that alone to be the highest

virtue, by which one is able to develop exclusive devotion to Sri

Krishna, the Self of the Universe." 2.2.34

the universe, poured into the cups of their ears by Holy men, are

able to purify their heart, which has been contaminated through

contact with the pleasures of senses, and attain proximity to His

lotus feet." SB 2.2.37

(Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 2, Chap. 2, verses 33-37)

'jimi ho zIta nivRtta tina, jina dig agni sidhAr

timi ho kRpA tinahi jina, mana jAye hari dwAr'

- Bhakti Satak. 30

Sri Kripaluji Maharaj

Just as one begins to experiences the warmth and heat as soon as

one reaches near the burning fire, similarly, when the mind and

heart of the sincere seeker approach the proximity of all merciful

Lord,

reaching the doorway of blissful Lord ('Hari dwaar'), he/she

immediately experiences His causeless Grace.

As said in scriptures, Lord's Grace is by nature Causeless.

Why only certain souls are capable of benefiting from His Grace?

The nature of fire is only to give heat and warmth.

The fire does not have any cause or reason for spontaneously

giving out its heat. The fire does not ask the shivering bodies

to pay any price in return for giving out its heat spontaneously.

But people wo have distanced themselves cannot derive this

benefit of heat from the burning fire.

The fire 'equally' distributes its heat to good and bad persons,

does not discriminate depending on any of their merits or faults.

That is known as causelessness. Just as heat can be only received by

the bodies approaching closer to fire, to receive Lord's Grace one

has to let one's mind and heart approach Him in humble surrender.

One has to open the sail so that ever blowing

wind can take the boat to the shore.

One has to open wide the windows

and let the bright sunshine in.

So also one has to open up one's heart to the Lord,

and Divine Grace rushes through.

Actually the meaning of 'upAsana'- (upa+ As+ lyuc) coming close.

When one who possesses a great amount of treaured wealth,

one gives out to the poor and needy in charity, the act itself

is called- kripa, Grace.

Namaste all.

jaga viraag ho titanoyee, jitanoyee hari anuraag!

taba ho hari anuraag jaba, guru charanan mana laag!!

- Bhakti Shatak. 12,

Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj

Hindi translation:

vaastavika guru ki sharanagati se hee

Sri Krishna me anuraag utpanna hotaa hai.

Jitani maatraa me yah anuraag hotaa hai utni hee

maatraa me sansaar se vairaagya bhi hotaa hai.

When the seeker comes to receive the benefit of blessed

association of Holy men, then only true Love for God dawns

through the Divine Grace of the Rasik Saint.

By taking full refuge at the lotus feet of God-realized genuine

Master,

the aspirant gradually experiences Divine love.

The degree of seeker's detachment from the material world

is directly proportional to the intensity of her or his

attachment for Sri Guru and the Lord.

Other scriptures have also endorsed these well known facts.

bhaktis tu bhagavad bhaktaH saGgena parijAyate

(Naradiya Purana)

the Lord, and people obtain such saintly association

as the result of previously accumulated piety."

svacchaH prakRtitaH snigdho mAdhuryas tIrthabhUr nRNAm,

"O King, a saintly person is just like the freely flowing

sweet spring water (which is capable of washing away the

impurities) because he himself is free from all contamination,

gentle by nature, and by pleasant speech creates a divine

vibration like that of the flowing sacred waters.

Just by seeing, touching or hearing such a God-realized

saintly person, the living entity is purified, just as one

is cleansed by contact with pure water.

Thus a saintly person, just like a holy lake, purifies all

those who come in physical, mental as well as spiritual

contact with him because he is always absorbed only

in chanting the glories of the Lord."

(Srimad-Bhagavatam- 11.7.44)

A few more verses from 'Sri Rama Carita Manas'-

by Sant Tulasi das:

candana taru hari santa samIrA

rAma sindhu ghana sajjana dhIrA

Lord Hari is the exotic tree of sandalwood.

Like the wind, the Saints carry its fragrance.

Lord Rama is the magnificent, unfathomable ocean.

Sometimes God out of His Mercy and without any reason for the

the ocean of mundane existence, with My (Divine) Grace for a

a combination of which, though hard to win, has been made

Saints for their part are inaccessible without a stock of meritorious

deeds; it is their fellowship in any case that brings to an end the

cycle of births and deaths.

There is only one deed of merit in the world and no other- to adore

the feet of the God-men (Saints) in thought, word and deed. Heavenly

gods and sages are propitious to him who with unfeigned devotion

serves the God-realized Saints.'

Jada Bharata declares to King Rahugana,

"O Rahugana, one does not attain this-

Divine state of Self-realization,

through asceticism nor through Vedic rituals,

nor again by dealing out food and

other necessaries among the needy,

nor by duly performing one's religious

duties pertainig to household life,

nor through a proper study of Vedic scriptures,

nor through the worship of gods presiding

over water, fire and sun, nor by any other means,

except by sprinkling one's body and mind

with the foot dust of God-realzed saints."

Shri Krishna has said that if you love heavenly Gods

you will go to heaven, if you love demons you will go to

the abode of demons and if you love Me you will attain Me.

Just think of what you want and attach your mind in that area.

In the matter of heavenly gods, there is tremendous amount of rules

but in the matter of God and Guru, there is no intelligence required.

Just surrender to them with child like innocence.

Other than selfless love there is no other rule.

vandanIya hai upaniSat, yAme jnAn mahAn,

- Bhakti Sataka, verse 88

"Upanishads are esteemed because they contain immense Divine

knowledge.

But this knowledge doesnot produce nor increase one's Love for Sri

Krishna.

Hence such knowledge is compared to an unconscious body without

life and motion!

The author of 'Brahma Sutra' and Puranas, Bhagavan

Sri Veda Vyasa said the same in Padyavali. 39th verse:

zrutamapya upaniSadaM dUre hari kathAmRtAt

yanna saMti dravacitta kaMpAzru pulakAdayaH

It is in the best interest of the devotees

who are eager to attain the 'Prema Bhakti'

that they should remain at a distance

to the dry subtle knowledge given

in the esteemed Upanishads, even though

it is pertaining to God, the absolute Brahman.

The reason being, that those Scriptural statements

are incapable of melting the heart of the seeker

by producing the 'Sattvica Bhava Vikara',

the enjoyable Divine Love expessions

such as tears, tremors, faltering voice,

horripilation, sweating, trance and others,

as they do not contain the nectar of Hari Katha,

the sweet blissful pastimes of Lord Hari.

Another verse from 'Bhakti Shatak' of Sri Kripaluji Maharaj:

The real essence of all philosophical doctrines and

true wisdom as well as ultimate knowledge derived

from all scriptures is Divine Love, wholeheated

adoration and total surrender to the Supreme,

Lord Krishna, and meditation upon His Divine Form.

The perfection of all spiritual discipline is an ever increasing

desire to serve Him, the universal Divine Beloved, endlessly.

dear friend

Lord Krishna preached Bhagavat Gita when Arjuna craved at His feet for the

divine knowledge. Do you think expression of love in words and feelings by mind

pleases Lord Krishna? If that would have been the case, why did He preach Gita

consisting of 18 chapters? Throught Gita, lord stressed on Nishkama Karma Yoga.

Nishkama means worshipping Lord without any desire. Karma Yoga as stressed in

Gita means Service. Service consists of Karma Phala Tyaga (donating money for

Lord's mission) and Karma Sanyasa (physically participating in His mission).

Gita says 'Karma Yogena Yoginaam........'

His mission is to uplift all the human beings by preaching the divine knowledge.

Hence for the divine knowledge propagation He comes down in human form. We have

to identify such Lord in human form by His divine knowledge (not by miracles

because some demons also have shown miracles but sofar nobody has preached

divine knowledge other than Lord in human form) and Serve Him here itself for

getting Liberation.

We have to identify the true path and travel in that direction even a few steps,

instead of running miles and miles away from the goal (which is nothing but

pleasing the Lord). Until and unless true meaning of Gita is enquired and

practiced in their own life, the author of Gita, Lord Krishna will never be

pleased.

Even in the worldly affairs also, Will any father please with his son if his son

does not follow any of his words? Likewise Lord comes down to preach the divine

knowledge and uplift the people like Krishna. If we do not listen to him nor

follow His words, then how will he be pleased with us? Lord is father of all the

individual souls. ' ...Aham Bija pradah...'

If Lord is not pleased, Radha will also not be pleased, because her devotion on

Lord is so much that whatever pleases Lord only pleases her. Divine knowledge is

for practicing and then only results flow automatically. Whatever articles

posted by me are all essence of Lord Krishna's preachings. Ofcourse true

knowledge will be very harsh and that is why Lord told that one in lakhs only

reaches Him. To be under the illusion that Lord is pleased with me without

knowing the true knowledge is 'Cutting the foot to the size of shoe'. So let us

know the TRUTH and accept in the first phase. Implementation comes later.

Teacher's Job ends after the preaching. It is left to devotee's discretion to

follow it or not. Lord is also not bothered whether we follow or not?

The propagation of divine knowledge should be carried out under the guidance of

a Spiritual teacher (Satguru), who is nothing but Lord Himself. This is the most

pious job. Divine knowledge means the knowledge required for the identification

of lord when comes in Human form. Human beings interpretations cannot be

accepted.

Satguru can only assess how much the disciple has assimilated His preachings.

Rama Krishna Paramahamsa told that such a divine knowledge should be learnt from

a Satguru by serving Him. As per the order of Satguru only a disciple can

participate in the propagation of divine knowledge. Propagation of false or

misleading knowledge is a sin. Because, anybody who is a sincere seeker will get

diverted or misled and finally he will not get the grace of Lord.

Reading & understanding the scriptures on our own is very difficult. These

scriptures are nothing but the word of Lord only. So when He comes in Human

form, why can't we avail Him and serve Him practically? Why to unnecessarily

struggle ourselves in understanding what is written in scriptures like Bible,

Gita, Khuran etc.

Until unless mind is convinced with true spiritual knowledge, it is difficult to

practice. Divine knowledge is to be practiced to get the grace of Lord and is

not meant for teaching only or for discussions only.
