Guest guest
Fpyk news letter July 2005 GURU PURNIMA:- Guru Purnima falls on the full moon day of Aashada month of Hindu lunar calendar (generally in the month of July). Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima, which is the birth day of the great teacher, Bhagavan Veda Vyasa. Veda Vyasa is considered as the Guru of the universe. He grouped the Veda into four branches, the Rg Veda, the Yajurveda, the Sama Veda and the Atharva Veda, for the convenience of the ordinary people to read and understand the Veda. He wrote Mahabharatha to understand the essence of the Veda. He wrote Puranas to help every one to realize the eternal values and the knowledge by practicing karmas, upasanas, japa and prayer. On Guru Purnima day, the learned teachers, sanyasins (monks) and mathadhipathis (the heads of the religious centers) worship Veda Vyasa and begin the observance of Chaturmasa vrata. These learned teachers, sanyasins and mathadhipathis stay in one place for these four months from this day doing meditation for the welfare of the humanity. On this Guru Purnima day, we must remember our Guru who taught us the knowledge and should surrender to him and serve him unconditionally. In the olden days, the students were submitting their respect to their Guru on every full moon day with Guru Dakshina. This practice is not found today which may be due to ignorance or lack of information. But it is not late to restart the practice. You can do it immediately. Plan to transfer/credit or send a check to your Guru every full moon day, (whatever may be the amount, small or huge), and offer your Guru with reverence and respect. `Serving the Guru leads to your enlightenment and liberation; will bring fortune to you.' Start this practice of serving your Guru from this Guru Purnima day which is on 21st July 2005 and continue the practice till you have the strength and source to do. You can find out the full moon day from various sources. Money is better and preferred to kinds and things. Often people give things which may not be useful to Guru but may become a burden and liability to him. If you give the money, your guru can use it in a better way; according to his needs. Remember that this duty to serve the Guru by way of paying Guru Dakshina continues the lamp of knowledge burning for ever. ******* Guruji's ninetieth year birth-day celebrations:- Master ji with his family will be in Mysore on 20th July 2005 and stay there till the completion of the birthday celebration of Guruji. >From Mysore Master ji will go to Chikkamagalur, a town which is about 250 KMs from Bangalore city to organize the Karnataka State Yoga Association's yogasana championships on 23rd and 24th July 2005.
