Guest guest
Thank you Jyotishguruji, for taking the time for us here. As I have requested earlier, I call upon you and other scripture experts to shed light on some facts. 1. Are the quoted texts in fact correct? or have they been falsified to discredit the Vedic culture as is often stated? 2. Are they accurate quotes and are simply being misinterpreted for self-serving purposes? Thank you pyari for your post with the references. http://www.gaudiyadiscussions.com/index.php? showtopic=3558&st=0&p=39224entry39224 http://www.geocities.com/realitywithbite/hindu.htm It again shows the two sides of the issue. Before I get into ecstacy over the story about the Jain ascetic in the article, I personally know too many atrocities on Jain women ascetics .. I wouldn't even begin to talk about those!!! Googling the topic will get you more information than you would want! Members? Where are you? Wake up.. please... _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma
Guest guest
Respected tatwamasi, thank you for your post. I feel i am missing the parables of Respected Silentsoul now - i fail to understand where his parables to lead people to light have gone to. I pray that he returns with his real self to lead people to light and more light. jyotishguru , "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi> wrote: > Thank you Jyotishguruji, for taking the time for us here. Guest guest
Baba Thank you for going back and reading up on our old posts. We have had some good dialogues. /message/5195 This post I had written a long time ago, does in fact answer why we have so many contradictory aspects to our texts. Never being interested in unraveling these cobwebs earlier, I was able to let it rest. Women's issues have always been a concern of mine. While I personally have lived a privileged life, I am aware and know of people who haven't had the pleasure. Global affairs have also brought attention to texts from different religions regarding treatment of women. And every atrocity commited has been excused or backed by quotations from religious texts. I guess in my blind faith in my "home", I had taken for granted that in an environment where the feminine aspect is given such a high regard, surely we didn't have anything drasticaly negative towards them. Every time I heard of another atrocity in our culture, I attributed to misuse misinterpretaions and ignorance. The defensive behavior among sadhaks piqued my curiosity and I did a search on women in Hinduism. Call me naive, or a pollyanna, but I was shocked. I know about the cobwebs in the dark crevices of my "grandfather"s house", but I didn't know that the text that is considered "pure knowledge", that which has no beginning no end, that which has survived milliniums, that which is held as the corner stone of the entire Sanatan dharm, actually contains this language against women. It is dispicable, and as low as anyone can get, and it explains why attrocities are continued unabated. It gives sanctity to those who resonate with darkness and evil. Funny thing is that without women, these writers wouldn't be here! Furthermore, in today's high tech information world, call it Kali or whatever, male gender's presence isn't even needed for procreation. To those who understand, their presence is certainly needed, to provide a balance of energies, but not for procreation any more. The explanation that you and Jyotishguru (those who know him know who he is in terms of his status in spiritual world), that the collection of sayings are tainted by the human hand seems reasonable. It also reaffirms that anything that comes through the human engine is limited by its own limitations. While there are many practices (cobwebs) in our texts, that appear bizzare, are harmless to us today as long as it is not practiced. Women abuse however still goes on, and it finds refuge in the "greatest" text in the world! Today this info is available to whoever takes the time to study. This is my "home"; my purpose is understaning. Yes I am very dissapointed, but I will survive. For those who don't consider this their home, this is perfect fodder for rebuke and condemnation. Chanting in fashion shows or movies, deities pictures on toilet seats, all have gotten the Hindu community indignantly up in arms. When mistreatment comes from outside, its not ok, but it's ok to continue mistreating our own? People in glass houses should hesitate to throw stones! No wonder we are in a mess! Solution? Education, understanding, putting things in place and exposure honest truths, not condemnation. Only the strongest in faith and grounded in Truth can face truth. Hiding, screaming chants, as if the Lord is hard of hearing, or glorifying and talking of whose Guru is superior, putting people down, pretending it doesn't exist, putting band aid to cover up, shutting people up, none of that will work any more. 'You can fool some people all the time, some people some of the time, but not all people all the time!' _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma , beirut_ka_baba <no_reply> wrote: > , "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi> wrote: > > Tatwamasi you had sometimes back written a post depicting Hinduism as > your grandfather's old house etc etc. > > Please re-read that post of yours...that gives a good reply to > this quetion of yours. > > baba
