It is well known in Sanatan Dharm, (infact its true for all old world religions) that much of the specific information is given to individuals as per their specific needs. There are whole philosophical schools, especially in the Tantric and Devi worship fields that are not for public discussion but for teaching in the presense of a Guru, according to the readiness of the student. In fact "Upanishad" means to sit near and learn. However these days, people get their burrs (aka ego) up, when they hear the word "secret" and become even more determined to get to it. And others enjoy the power trip in presenting it, which then attracts that aspect in the public. There are some mesage boards whose focus seems to be just that. Photographs are taken out of context, information is taken out of context and simply displayed or presented, without regard for the mental readiness of the viewer/ audience. have had senior teachers in tears, when they have seen pictures which should not have been displayed. What is the consequence of this kind of behavior? _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma
Guest guest
Namaste all. Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. ~ Chinese Proverb We should not consider whatver thoughtful messages, or wise processes or related quotes from scriptures we read on these message boards to be the sole perfect, absolutely authorized 'sadhana' - spiritual practice. They help the 'sadhaka' to a certain extent, to ponder and delve deeper, marching on the spiritual path of his/her choice, be guided further by God-realized saints and evolved teachers. More wisdom from different masters: "The wise are they that speak not unless they obtain a hearing, even as the cup-bearer, who proffereth not his cup till he findeth a seeker, and the lover who crieth not out from the depths of his heart until he gazeth upon the beauty of his beloved. Wherefore sow the seeds of wisdom and knowledge in the pure soil of the heart, and keep them hidden, till the hyacinths of divine wisdom spring from the heart and not from mire and clay." (Baha'u'llah: Persian Hidden Words, Page: 36) Lord Krishna warns Arjuna about giving His message to UNQUALIFIED people in the verses 18.67- 'idaM te nA tapaskAya nA bhaktAya kadAcana, na ca azzrUSave vAcyaM na ca mAM yo 'bhy asUyati ' (Gita 18.67) This (that I have spoken) to you SHOULD NOT EVER be taught under any circumstance to one who is DEVOID of austerities and to one WHO IS NOT A DEVOTEE; also, NEITHER to one WHO DOESNOT render SERVICE, NOR as well to one WHO CAVILS at ME. The four classes of people are mentioned here and they are not to be given the SECRET knowledge of Gita. 1. One who is devoid of austerities, one has not learned to control one's sense organs and mind 2. One who is NOT a devotee, who is devoid of devotion towards Lord, even IF he be a man of austerity 3. One who DOES NOT render SERVICE, even if he be a man of austerity and a devotee 4. One who cavils at Me, by thinking of Me as an ordinary man having no divine virtues. He who, being UNABLE to bear My Godhood hates Me, to him, who is intolerant of the excellence of Sri Krishna, it SHOULD NOT be taught even if he be man of austerity, a devotee and one rendering service, at any time! The idea is that it can be taught to one who is full of love for Sri Krishna and is also a man of austerity, a devotee and one rendering service. SECRECY AND PUBLICITY THE Buddha said: "Three things, O disciples, are characterized by secrecy: love affairs, priestly wisdom, and all aberrations from the path of truth. Women who are in love, O disciples seek secrecy and shun publicity; priests who claim to be in possession of special revelation, O disciples, seek secrecy and shun publicity; all those who stray from the path of truth, O disciples, seek secrecy and shun publicity. "Three things, O disciples, shine before the world and cannot be hidden. What are the three? The moon, O disciples, illumines the world and cannot be hidden; the sun, O disciples, illumines the world and cannot be hidden; and the truth proclaimed by the Tathagata illumines the world and cannot be hidden. These three things, O disciples, illumine the world and cannot be hidden. There is no secrecy about them." http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/btg/btg45.htm Jaya Sri Radhey! , "Tatwamasi" <tatwamasi> wrote: > , beirut_ka_baba <no_reply> wrote: > The Kriyas are highly secret and are > > passed on from an authenticated Guru only to his chelas. Guest guest
Thanks Pyari, The variety of quotes show that all Masters feel the need to give teachings according to the readiness of the student. "Secrecy" may not an accurate term, but its the one people seems to use. The finer points of surgery, for instance, need to be given to a serious student of surgery, not to me, who has no use and will get into trouble if I try to do anything with it. "Little learning is a dangerous thing". I was curious about the karmic consequences of not adhering to this horative? or does it really matter!!! Are there any "stories" in the scriptures which discuss misuse of information? _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma , pyari_h <no_reply> wrote: > Namaste all. > > Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. > > ~ Chinese Proverb > > We should not consider whatver thoughtful messages, or wise processes > or related quotes from scriptures we read on these message boards to > be the sole perfect, absolutely authorized 'sadhana' - spiritual > practice. >
Guest guest
Hi...I am new to your group....and my first mail...Hope you accept me.. There is no secresy to spiritual knowledge.......There is no secrecy to sadhna......The only requirement is True Guru and our attitude to learn from HIM.....HE becomes like a open book, if you wish to read...HE should be approched with humbleness....OR you come empty handed...
