Pilgrimage with Master ji:-

Master ji decided to go with his brothers to Kukke Subramanya, the

temple town near the western coast of Karnataka to perform the

special ritual to the serpent god, the presiding deity of Kukke

Subramanya. When he told the students about his plans to attend the

rituals and expected them to manage their yoga practice during his

absence, he had to experience a pleasant surprise. His students

asked him the purpose of his visit to the temple town Kukke

Subramanya. Master ji explained the reasons to go there and to

perform the rituals. Instead of receiving the usual reply from the

students, such as, `What about our practice?' or `Oh! We miss the

class.' Or `I do not know how to keep myself busy during these

days.' Master ji heard the chorus voice of the students, `We will

come with you and see the rituals.' Master ji was stunned to see

their curiosity and the enthusiasm.

Master ji left with his students to Kukke Subramanya on 28th morning

of April. He wanted to leave Bangalore by 7.30 A.M. The taxi did

not come by that time. When an enquiry was made at the travel agent

to know the reason for the delay, the travel agent replied that the

time was not auspicious till 7.30 A.M. on that day and the driver

was not ready to take out the taxi from the garage before 7.30.A.M.

Master ji had to control his anger to hear this because he was on a

pilgrimage. Though the taxi left late the students were very

enthusiastic and they appeared philosophical when the came to know

the reason for the late departure.

The first stop of the group was at Shravanabelagola the famous Jain

centre where the world's tallest statue carved out of single rock

stands.

>From Shravanabelagola, the group went to Kowshika, the birth place

of Guruji, Vidwan K.P. Jois. The youngest brother of Guruji who had

just completed his daily chores and yet to have his food around 3.00

P.M. was very happy to receive the group. He asked Master ji about

his relatives. Guruji's sister-in-law served the group with fruit

salad and fruit juice. The students were happy to consume both which

was very delicious and cool. The affectionate words of the people

and their hospitality impressed the students. The students

expressed, `We can never have this type of life in our country,'

The students went to see the Shankara Mutt built by Guruji.

They left Kowshika and reached Kukke Subramanya in the evening.

After settling themselves the students left to move around the town.

Master ji decided to go the temple. One of the students, Dorothy

accompanied Master ji. When they entered the temple they saw the

procession of the deity, Sri Subramanya.

The belief of the people is that Lord Kumara made Kukke a Holy place

where devotees go to attain siddhis; the sick suffering from

ailments get cured.

Late in the night, Master ji explained again about the rituals.

Master ji

told them to assemble on next day, that is, on 29th at 8.00 A.M.

On 29th at 8.00 A.M. each student came with the money and told

Master ji that each of them wanted to perform the rituals. It was a

nice surprise to Master ji. Every one took part in the rituals,

which started around 9.30 A.M. on 29th April and completed around

12.30 P.M. on 30th April.

In the afternoon, the students went to Dharmasthala where millions

of people visit every year. Dharmasthala is the place of charity and

service.

On first of May, the group went to Belur to see the intricate work

at Sri Channakeshava temple.

>From we went to Halebeedu, the city of twin temples and the capital

of Hoysala empire.

We returned back to Bangalore comfortably in the evening. Every one

enjoyed all the visits and was happy.

SHASTHI:- 14th May and 29th May.

Yogasana competition will be in Bangalore on 11th and 12th June;

In Chikkamagalore on 23rd and 24th July.

Humanism is my philosophy. Humanity is my religion. Human beings are

my gods and goddesses. Their dwellings are my temple, church,

mosque, religious centers. The milk of human kindness is my

presiding deity.
