Guest guest
Dear beirut_ka_baba, further to this, can u tell me how long we should do this pranayama before meditation. i do about 20 minutes of meditation in the morning and evening. By this practise u mean to breath slow. I have read somewhere that when we breath slow, our prana increases. but i didnt understand that. Please throw more light on this. sorry i straight away started this email.Im a member for sometime but never wrote a mail. Im Balaji from bangalore, India. Im interested in meditation. But it should be fixed not changed later on. only the time will increase slowly and finally when u reach at 30 count you would be acutally taking one minute for a breathe making it 31 minutes total. If we go a little deeper into this technique, we will know how it works. As i told earlier, all our tensions crop up due to imbalance of gunas. Surprisingly, even others giving us tensions are mainly due to our own disturbances of gunas. That is the main cause of unrest. Instead of correcting our guna balance, we try to correct others and we gain nothing. Left nostril denotes Tamoguna and right nostril denotes Rajoguna and equilibrium of both denotes Satoguna. When we inhale from left, we intake prana mixed with Tam and when we inhale from right, we intake Rajoguna. The type of prana inhaled energies the same type of vrittis to surface. So by balancing the energies we intake, we control the vrittis coming out of our sub=-conscious. If our satoguna prevails, it will not let bad vrittis come out, and even if they come out they become weak, and can not harm us to their full potential. They give their bad results, either affecting our stomach or skin or showing us a horrible dream and then they die. So any such symptom should be taken as a positive sign of progress. Just 3 months of practice, and we can find how effective this pranayam is. Acharya Ram Dev the great yogi of todays, has laid a lot of stress on this pranayama. This pranayama is not harmful in anyway and does not need a guru to teach you. Hari Aum
Guest guest
thanks for the reply. 30 minutes before meditation is a little long time may be ill get used to once i start practising. Ill try to implement this. If im right in understanding vrittis to be karmas, then this practise is a great way to nullify (or overpower) bad karmas. Once again thanks for explanation. Guest guest
Thats an interesting subject. "That is the main cause of unrest. Instead of correcting our guna balance, we try to correct others and we gain nothing." So the way we act or react in certain situations and the way we feel towards the attitude of others is related to our guna-imbalance? "Left nostril denotes Tamoguna and right nostril denotes Rajoguna and equilibrium of both denotes Satoguna. When we inhale from left, we intake prana mixed with Tam and when we inhale from right, we intake Rajoguna." The left nadi (ida) is related to the negative prana, the female energy, the moon energy or the yin. The right one (pingala) is related to the male energy, the positive, yang or sun energy. But I had never before related them to the gunas. This comparison is very interesting. Could we associate the nadis to another pair of opposites? "30 minutes before meditation is a little long time :)" I think our friend meant 10 minutes spending in pranayama and the rest 20 of your meditation equals 30? I also didnt get it. I dont think one should wait 30 min after the pranayama to start meditation or japa. 5 min break should be enough. What do you think?
