> Our Community Collects: ‘The Manifestations of Krishna' The Collection of Kiku

Mendriatta

> June 4- July 18, 2004

> Collector: Kiku Mendiratta

> Curator: Dawn White Beatty

>

> Assembled over a period of thirty years, Burlington resident Kiku Mendriatta's

collection of Indian paintings in watercolour and oil contains contemporary

works by Indian artists that continue the tradition of historical painting in

India.

>

> The thirteen works in this exhibition were selected around the theme “the

manifestations of Krishna” and show the Hindu god Lord Krishna as the central

figure in the most well-known stories of Hinduism. The works are lively and

jewel-like in colouring and patterning. Exquisitely detailed, they exhibit the

sacred colours and designs that have been carefully passed from one generation

of artists to the next since ancient times in India. The delightful figures and

creatures of the stories capture the imagination and the intricate designs and

patterns of the works are beautiful and serene.

>

> “Manifestations of Krishna” is the first of a new series of exhibitions

developed by the Burlington Art Centre that celebrates the diversity of

interests of our art collecting community and illustrates the process of

assembling a private art collection.
