Jai Gurudev,

I am giving extracts from a lecture of Acharya Rajnessh

1. "One gets the result (fal) of Karma immediately. For example, if

you put your hand on fire, its result, burning will be instant."

2. "Shankaracharya adopted Sanyas at the age of 9 years. He was at

that hight in such a small age because of his Karmas in last lives."

Are these two statements are contradictory ? Or there is some hidden

meaning. Comments please.

Jai Gurudev,

Namaste Pradeep,

A very interesting question indeed. Before looking into when karma

manifests, so that it can be called instantaneous karma or karma that

manifests later, let us have a look at the types of karma, so it

facilitates our understanding.

There are basically 3 types of karma :

1. Sanchita karma ( or the cumulation of all past karmas accrued in

previous / present lives)

2. Prarabdha karma : the past karma that we are enjoying / suffering

now

3. Agami / Kriyamana karma : the karma that we are doing now, that

will have effect in the future.

It's like a bank account, there are lots of karma in store , like a

huge savings account or a deposit. this is sanchita karma. Though you

have all this is store, you cannot withdraw the entire amount or

enjoy the whole thing now.

Every month you withdraw some amount to be used now. This is the

prarabdha karma. it is that portion of the sanchita karma that we are

undergoing now. it could be either a good one or a bad one.

As we are exhausting our old karma, we are constantly making new

karma, and this will have effect in the future. This present karma

that we are making is called Agami karma.

Now, we know that there is a huge store of sanchita karma for all of

us. Now how is that distributed? When do you enjoy the fruits of

your good karma and when doy ou suffer for your bad karma? When do

you suffer less for the lesser sins and when doy ou suffer more for

your greater sins? The same with joy / pleasure.

That is what is decided by God. He chooses from your store, what you

must have now, in a way that helps you best, and cleanses you and

levitates you spiritually.

In the example of putting your hand in fire, and the fire burning

you, it cannot be called instantaneous karma, b'cos putting your hand

in the fire is not a sin. What for must you get burnt then? Or is it

a sin or a crime to run your hand against the sharp blades of a

knife? Why must you get cut then?

As we saw earlier, the Lord chooses what time is best to give you the

karma that is in store, that helps you best. And now, if you must get

hurt for some reason, it cannot happen with no cause at all. There

has to be a way in which to get hurt. And so accidentally you put

your hand in the fire, or cut your hand in the kitchen.

Hope this helps.

Hari Aum !!!
