Guest guest
Let us not discourage any one from Chanting Sanskrit Shalokas, knowing their meaning or not. Shalokas have an inherent power, they can reveal themselves to a sincere seeker and purify him or her, over a period of time, when chanted with faith and devotion. If one does not practice Sadhana with an attitude of surrender, pride can creep in regardless whether one knows their meaning or not. It is generally accepted that if one chants the name of the Lord even once, it can destroy the sins (Papas) of 100 life times, then what to talk of chanting the Vishnu Sahasranaama Stotram daily. Valmiki got realized by chanting "Mara Mara" upon the advice of Devarishi Narada, when the former refused to chant "Rama Rama". Vishnu Sahasranaama Stotram was given by Sri Bhisma on his death bed of arrows on the battlefield of Kurukeshtra, in reply to Yudhistra's question, "Kim Japanmuchyate Jantur, Janama Samsaar Bandhanaat", meaning: By chanting what the Jiva can obtain freedom from the bondage of this Samsara. Please keep chanting mechanically or otherwise, but with faith, devotion and surrender, the Lord will take care of the rest.
