Guest guest
Sardarji, You said.. "Now if someone asks me to donate for Pakistani children., I will be reluctant becoz with my donation they will grow up stronger and will come to India as terrorist and kill our children" Chote moo badi baath...But I think. Well do we need to state the obvious again? Just do your deeds, dont think about the consequences, dont expect the fruits. Well, are we already so wise to judge good and bad ourselves, above over the dharmas we know. Its our dharma to help the needy. The hardest thing to judge I guess is... What is good and what is bad. There are various grey areas in aspects like charity, morality, divinity, respect etc where judgement of good and bad come in, which however differs from culture to culture and even person to person. Just some thoughts. Still looking for answers... Alak Niranjan! --Pradeep
Guest guest
Dear Respected AjitsinghJi: Your question is valid. Always the giver has an upper hand. It is up to the giver where to give, whom to give. Only recommendation is that do not have an attachment towards such donation that is all. For example: So may charities solicit for you heard earned money to sponsor a child for few dollar a day ( a cup of coffee at Star- Bucks !!). They will send you the picture of the child as well. Here they are preying on the human emotions of attachment. They are creating an attachment with the child that is being sponsored. It is a well know that only a fraction of such donations reach the real cause. Most of the funds go to the organizers and the advertising budget. Our scriptures tell us: karmaNa baddhyate ja.ntuH viddyayaa tu pramuccate All that karmas bind us thus becoming knowledgeable (that create such bindings) is the route that one must follow. Shethasvatara Upanishad says j~naatvaa deva.m uccate sarva paashaiH. Coming back to your question: You have already answered it logically. If you think a donation could possibly be abused or utilized for the cause that you do not agree with then you do not have to support it. Yesterday, there was a physician who was interviewed by some reporter, who was treating a (West bank) Palestine patients in the hospital in Jerusalem. Doctor said that he would have probably killed this guy if he had come across him on a street. But once he is in the hospital animosity ends at the doorstep. Inside their relationship is strictly doctor-patient and he will do everything in his power to save him every which way he can. I was really taken by his comments. As I understand it, you have no problem with the concept of donations but do have reservations about the receiving parties and their intentions. Once you know this, then everything is up to you, as long as your concisions is clear. I will try to answer your question on "purNaavataara" through various postings as the time permits through some stories. Regards, Dr. Yadu ================================ I have a funny story that you might enjoy. This happened some in 1982 that time I was a student. National News ran a story about the improper use of funds by some charity organizations. That is when I decided that I will not donate money I started volunteering my time for various organizations. Those days I use to volunteer for Native Indians and became sort of a brig brother and use to assist teenagers with their difficulties in math and science. One day I was driving with a chief and he said something very interesting. He said, "Columbus was looking for you but found me."
