But what is > happiness? How do you define happiness? When will you say you are > happy? > What is it that gives us / responsible for our happiness - > favourable events, people, things, objects etc? Why does happiness > alternate with sorrow, and why can't one be eternally happy? Why do > we feel sorrowful at times? How do we overcome sorrow? > > I request all the members to pour in your thoughts on these questions. > > Thank you > > Hari Aum !!! ______________________ radhakutir Happiness a) is a state of the mind. b) is a state of contentment. c) is a state of egolessness d) is a state of desirelessness. e) is a state of detachment and dispassion and f) it is a state of being with our own-selves, the self effulgent Atman. The source of all happiness, mundane or spiritual, is the All Blissful Self. In a mundane happiness, when we acquire an object or a being of our desire, we become desireless momentarily, and the barriers between us and the Self are diminished, and hence the Bliss of the Self shines forth and we feel happy until the next desire covers that happiness. In the spiritual happiness the seeker lives a life of self surrender with 'Prasad Buddhi' and 'Ishvara Arpitam Buddhi'. Therefore he has no egoistic desires, and he dedicates all his actions and the fruits thereof at the feet of the Lord. Naturally he lives a life of contentment and happiness. The best example is the state of bliss experienced in deep sleep because we all feel that bliss almost every day. In deep sleep state we are totally egoless and desireless because the body consciousness is not there, hence we are closest to the All Blissful Self, thus drawing the bliss of the Self. Next morning we have a remembrance of that blissful and peaceful sleep. Desire is the root cause of all our sorrows. When we obtain the object or the being of our desire, we are concerned about its protection, we may not lose it etc. and this leads to worry and sorrow. Also desires flow continuously one after another, will I get the object of my next desire?, such thoughts lead to endless worry and frustration. What is the solution? Self Realization is the only answer for lasting and permanent happiness. I am not the body, I am the all blissful Atman. Contemplate on these Vedic statements. Live a life of self surrender, 'Prasad Buddhi' and 'Ishvara Arpitam Buddhi'. Get on board, you are bound to reach the destination sooner or later. God bless all.
