Guest guest
This is such an interesting topic... Thank you, Satish, for verbalizing my point better than I can. (By the way, I didn't mean that this was a "serious" topic...I meant that it is a sensitive topic... ) Your input is right on with what I was trying to say. Personally, to expand on one of Sankar's points, I feel that these strict rules that women should serve men etc. were brought on and wrote by men in order to keep women from having too much of power. Sankar was dead on when he said that rules are in place to keep the ruling party still ruling. So true! I feel that these laws and rules were only put in place to keep women in check. I've often posed this question: What would happen if all the women in the world suddenly refused to cook? When I said that I happen to be in a female body, I did not mean it was by accident. Of course this is all part of the master plan. However, that does not mean that in my next life I will not be a man, and it certainly doesn't mean that I wasn't a man before. It just so happens that I am here, now, in this body of an American woman. Does that mean I do not deserve respect as any other? How can we justify this? We say ALL ARE ONE, and we are all drops from the ocean of divinity, yet we treat someone badly because she is a female, or American, or of a different caste? Regarding roles/responsibilities/duties...I am not so blind as to think that we, as males and females, do not have different roles. While I do believe that it should be each woman's choice as to how she wants to live her life (of course, the same goes for men...), I do believe that (and of course I am speaking in GENERAL terms here) women have a more natural knack for care-giving and making a home. Do I believe it is my duty? Yes. Is it my only duty? No. Is it every woman's duty? No. I have to agree with Sankar again when he said that your partner should be your best friend. Guest guest
-Dear Erica, Here's something that might interest you: Sufi Master Hazrat Inayat Khan once said that when a soul wants to become more refined, it comes in as woman. :-) I believe also that some of the great Buddhist Rinpoches have said that it is actually easier for a woman to attain enlightenment than a man! This talk of "serving man" leaves me cold, where is the thought about understanding that every woman is embodiment of Divine Mother?? Guest guest
Dear Kathy and Erica,I thought that I wont tell who said "God comes down on earth only in a male body". But hearing the name of Hazrat Inayat Khan.. I am telling it.Those are the words of Meher Baba.. who asked mrs Ivy Oniata Duce to re-orient the sufi order in Amarica. As for sankar, i again like to inform that sankara.. himself worshiped the "mother godess..His "saudarya Lahari" is the evidence. Guest guest
Dear Satish, Well maybe the "words of Meher Baba" were not written out accurately, or the interpreter heard him wrong. In my latest issue of "Purnaprajna" (July/August/September 2002), which is a quarterly magazine which contain the words/teachings of Karunamayi, Amma says this: "Divine mother, Sri Devi, is the ultimate divinity (Para Brahmamayi) that is beyond all the worldly attchments." Karunamayi is Divine Mother, So is/was Amma Anasuya Devi, as well as many others who have incarnated on the earth: In FEMALE bodies, Satish. So *whatever* Meher said or meant, God only knows. Sometimes I think people hear things wrong and write them down wrong.
