Numerous participants from various fields including Indology , Hospitality , Management and different had attended this workshop . The Inaugaration was made by Dr M.K.Dhawalikar , Well known scholar in Archaelogy , Numismatics , prehistory and indology and Mr Jayant Tilak trustee of TMV . In the keynote address Dr Dhawalikar express that , Heritage management is new sub discipline of management studies . There was not awareness about managing the heritage till the first half of 20th century. But after World war-II there wa large scale destruction of ancient monuments and other cultural properties in Europe , and therefore the preservation of historical buildings and ancient sites was taken up by several European governments . Fortunately we had noe faced any such disaster , so we must adopt some good things from these nations . The great emperor As'oka can be truely said to be the first dedicated Archaeologist for he is known to have very carefully excavated Buddha's ashes which were buried under the stupas that were erected after the nirvana of the Enlightened one . in fact at sanchi there is a reprentation of As'oka excavating the ramagrama Stupa which was protected by the Nagas . Dr Dhawalikar also emphasized on different issues like Present Government policy of " Conservation " ( or Keeping as it is) and Western Policy of " Restoration " ( Restoring the damages etc) . He also discussed Role of Museums , Legislation and Smuggling of Antiquities ( The recent mishap at Pitalkhora where few antiquities were removed with the help of guard) . There is need of documenttaion of antiquities which help in future for example we could bring back Sivapuram bronze by establishing our ownership , but there are cases where we could not do so and have lost cases .Treasure trove act covers accidental discovery of coin hoards and jewellery etc. The Other Topics those were included in the worshop : 1) World Heritage Movement + Scope and Significance of Cultural Heritage by Dr Shubhangana Atre of Dept of Indology , TMV . 2) Guidelines to lay art enthusiast - to understand a monument and to understand art objects by Dr G.B.
