Guest guest
Dear List Members, I request you to be so kind as to give some tips for a research project I have in mind. I was reading about the development of Bengali lietrature, and it occurred to me that the famous work "Bishad-Sindhu" by Mir Mosharraf Hussein which deals with the sufferings of Muslim people in Bengal, may be related to similar works in Urdu/Hindustani or Persian. I have heard of a genre of poetry in which the "lament of a cityshahr ashob" is the dominant theme. I hope to find samples of "shahr ashob" poetry in Urdu/Persian, and then compare it with the work of Mir Mosharraf Hussein (who, if I understand correctly was the first Muslim writer of Bengali to make an impact on then predominantly Hindu readership of Bengali. Since I know next to nothing about this matter, I will be grateful for even the most elementary suggestions about studying this genre of poetry. Thank you in advance, Dileep dskaranth
