Guest guest
Dear Sangeeta Mohanty, You might try the works of Harold Coward for this topic. E.g.: Coward, Harold. *Derrida and Indian Philosophy* SUNY, 1990. Coward, Harold G. "Bhartrhari's Dhvani: a central notion in Indian aesthetics." In: Revelation in Indian thought: a Festschrift in honour of Professor T. R. V. Murti. (Emeryville, Calif.: Dharma Publications, 1977), pp. 65-85. I noticed recently that C. Rajendran makes mention of Saussure very briefly in *Studies in Comparative Poetics* Delhi, 2001. One person who would likely know much more about this topic is Nadine Berardi. She teaches Sanskrit at Emory University. You might try contacting her at: nberard best, Tim Cahill On Tue, 31 May 2005, Sasank Mohanty wrote: > Dear Prof. Torella, Thank you for the information. Hi, This is not what you asked for, but according to E. F. K. Koerner Saussure was influenced by William Dwight Whitney (1827-1894)--the author of "Sanskrit Grammar". Koerner writes of Whitney's influence in the two books below hastily coupled with reviews. Percival, on p. 394, mentions work by Godel, Mauro, and Jakobson who also briefly discuss Whitney's influence. Percival, W. Keith. Review of "Ferdinand de Saussure: Origin and Development of His Linguistic Thought in Western Studies of Language" by E. F. K. Koerner. Language. Vol. 53, No. 2 (Jun., 1977), pp. 383-405. Joseph, John E. Review of "Saussurean studies/Etudes saussuriennes" by Konrad Koerner. Language. Vol. 65, No. 3 (Sep., 1989), pp. 595-602. hth, tlighthiser
