History of Bharatiya languages as recorded by Bharata in Natyas'astra

This note documents the information related to languages of Bharatam

recorded by Bharata in Natyas'astra with particular reference to the

use of specific languages by specific characters in dramatic

performances and in consonantc with emotions and sentiments related to

specific dramatic situations. This is a remarkable historical document

of the situation of Prakrits and Samskr.tam circa centuries before the

Common Era.
