Guest guest
Dear Phillip, I suggest looking at the various histories of Sanskrit literature, especially the local ones, such as Dutta's Bengal's Contribuition to Sanskrit Literature and other works of the sort. Editions of later duta kavyas (anything but Meghaduta) will likely have some discussion of the topic. I have a short discussion of the topic in the introduction (pages 11-14) to my translation of Hamsaduta and Uddhavasandesa, Rupa Goswami's two works in the genre, which was published under the unfortunate title of Mystic Poetry. It is still available at www.mandala.org. Yours, Jan phillip.ernest wrote: Dear list, could someone please suggest some books specifically on the dutakavya, if they exist, and if not, then those books that have the best treatment of them and their history as a genre. I have not succeeded in finding anything in my library with the obvious search words. Many thanks. Phillip Mail Mobile Take Mail with you! Check email on your mobile phone. Guest guest
I am actually deeply embarrassed that I wrote, once again advertising my book. If there is any way that I can be of assistance let me know. Are you still in Toronto, or back in Italy? phillip.ernest wrote:Dear list, could someone please suggest some books specifically on the dutakavya, if they exist, and if not, then those books that have the best treatment of them and their history as a genre. All of Professors Cahill and Knudsen's titles turn out to be in my library, but I do not know enough about the genre to have made the best search. Of your suggestions we have Ranganathan's but not the others. Phillip
