Guest guest
As per P.1.2.46 "kRt-taddhita-samAsAzca", a samaasa (compound) is supposed to be a prAtipadika and from P. 4.1.1-2 a prAtipadika can have a sup-vibhakti. Then from P.2.1.4 "saha supA" there is a further room for a samaasa. <<I ask the question because I've seen the note in Monier-Williams for - kRt - "only ifc. Pan. 6-1 182 " >> In view of the rules mentioned above, the note in MW simply means that whatever meaning to kRt is immediately being given is applicable only when it appears as the non-initial component of a compound. It does not prohibit any further compound formation. In compound word "kRt-tattva-bodhinii", the kRt is not an initial component, hence the meaning assigned to it earlier is not applicable to this compound. Here, hopefully, it means the kRt suffix. --- Narayan Prasad - Harry Spier indology Saturday, January 29, 2005 2:43 AM [Y-Indology] Clarification re: compounds with kRt Dear list members, When I asked if compounds of the form xxx-kRt-yyyy were valid, I didn't mean kRt affixes in general but compounds of the form for example " vighna-kRt " . vighna-kRt means "interfering" So can I say vighna-kRn-nara "an interfering man" . I ask the question because I've seen the note in Monier-Williams for - kRt - "only ifc. Pan. 6-1 182 " Many thanks, Harry Harry Spier 371 Brickman Rd.
