subject : A few unique BOWS used in RAmAyan – MahAbhArat War.

A few bows used in RAmAyan and MahAbhArat – war, look to be unique in their make

and operation both. The famous bow of Shiva ,which was kept in the custody of

Janak , right from his ancestors time, was extra ordinarily heavy and huge. when

Vishwamitra requested Janak to show the same to RAm, the great bow kept in a

eight wheeled box, was brought pulled by five thousand strong soldiers .(BalkAnd

: canto 67 ,Verse 4.

Many bravest possible kings tried their strength over this ,even in bigger

groups together, they could not even move the bow by an inch from its place,

what of operating it !

RAm lifted it sportily and set the string to the bow but it broke suddenly from

the middle when he stretched its string to operate it.

The great bow created thundering sound while breaking ,followed by an earthquake

which made all the present there unconscious ,excepting a few ,. ( BalkAnd :

canto 67 ,Verse 14 –19 )This terrifying sound was heard everywhere.

Arrows like Brahmastra could be operated only from such unique bows equipped

with atomic power.

The bow ,which was carried by RAm ,while leaving AyodhyA for his exile , was of

a great brand on which he operated Brahmdand , charged with BrahmAstra against

the ocean which ignored his request to give him passage for his army to reach

Lanka. The Breahmdand operated from his great bow, converted a huge part of the

ocean into a desert. A bow of great capacity was offered to him by ParashurAm.

In MahabhArat , BhIshm described the bow of ParashurAm , as huge as a palm

tree.which created mountain crashing thunderous sound when operated.

(Udyogaparva : AmbopAkhyAn ;chapter 128)

The great GandIva of Arjun was also described as huge as a palm tree.It needed

special chariot to be carried. (VirAtparva:goharparva chapter 40)

These bows appear to be mobile oeration stations for a few weapons as well.

Attention of learned members invited.
