Dear Members,

Tsunami in the Ramayana.

I came across to a man –made tsunami – like description in Ramayana by Valmiki.

It refers to Yuddha kAnd: canto 21: Shlokas 25 - 32

‘Finding his request failed to impress the ocean, seeking passage through it,

for his army to reach to the Lanka side shore, Ram decided to make his path,

through the ocean with help of his arrows. He loosed his arrows from his

powerful bow. Arrows penetrated the water of the ocean causing mountainous waves

not less higher than the Vindhya and Mandar mountains.’

‘Further, he decided to use Brahmdand (rod of Brhma) charging it with the

potency of BrahmAstra and stretched his bow with full force for the final

operation, the heaven and earth seemed to be riven and mountains shook. Lakes

and rivers agitated and sun and moon changed their way. THE OCEAN WITH THE MASS

OF ITS WATER AND WAVES SURGED BEYOND ITS CONFINES TO THE EXTENT OF ABOUT EIGHT

MILES.’

YuddhakAnd: canto 22: Shlokas 5-16

On request of the ocean Ram loosed brahmdand from his bow and it turned a huge

part of the ocean into a desert known as MarukAntAr ,the modern desert of

Bikaner and Marwar of Rajasthan.

YuddhakAnd: canto 22: Shlokas 32 -40
