Guest guest Posted November 15, 2004 Report Share Posted November 15, 2004 I believe John Brockington has a review of relevant oral formulaic approaches to both epics in his _Sanskrit Epics_ (1998); Alf Hiltebeitel has discussed the orality of the epics in at least two places (_Rethinking the Mahabharata_ and _Rethinking India's Oral and Classical Epics_), but he is generally in favor of written--or at least literary--composition.
