Dear Pandey jii,

There are two more cases which do not fit in either of the techniques

pointed out by you.

(I) Consider the sUtra P 3.1.40 "kR~ncAnuprayujyte liTi". Here "kR~n" is

supposed to be a pratyAhAra representing (1) bhU (2) as (3) kR. Can you tell me

how ?

(II) There is another case which I do not remember properly. Probably it is

related to the pratyAhAra "tRn". But I am not sure.

Dear List:

I am trying to compile a list of all the abbreviatory techniques employed by

Panini to acieve economy of words.

Here is what I have come up with:

(1) Siva Sutra Technique

(2) Technique of listing and then identifying the list by first phoneme and last

marker(it). Like sup for 'su-au-jas' and ting for 'tip-tas-jhi....'.

(3) Adhikara and Anuvriti Technique.

Can anyone please identify any others I might have missed.

Sincerely,

Chetan Pandey
