searching indological journals by subject

Dear list.

 

There are several indological search engines available through my

university's library catalogue, but I have not found a way to easily

search journal articles by subject as one can do with library

collections. Moreover, I am told that there is no such way of

searching journals, and that knowledge of their contents can only be

had by keeping abreast of new issues, and by word of mouth and

citations where articles in the past are concerned. This seems very

sad, a great loss of a massive resource. Is there no easier way to

navigate old indological journals?
