Guest guest
Announcement Following the death of Dr Julia Leslie the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the Centre for Gender and Religions Research at SOAS is setting up a scholarship fund in her memory in order to ensure that her legacy continues to benefit the wider academic community. The fund will be used to support postgraduate students researching issues pertaining to Indian religious traditions and gender. If you would like to contribute to the fund please send your donations to Annette Bullen, Executive Officer (Development), SOAS, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG (please make cheques etc. payable to SOAS). Alternatively, fill in the gift aid form at http://www.soas.ac.uk/outreach/index.cfm?navid=2003 [click on the 'how you can help' button]. Julia founded the Centre for Gender and Religions Research at SOAS in 2001 and under her leadership it has gone on from strength to strength: two new MA programmes in Gender Studies have been inaugurated, a new project on Gender, Myth, and Society in the Indian epic the Mahabharata (Epic Constructions) is in its first year of operation, three very successful international conferences on topics concerned with religions and gender research have been held, over 30 research students have benefited from the Centre's programme, and strong links are being established with scholars across the world. A memorial service for Julia will be held on the 24th November 2004 and details will be posted here shortly.
