Pt. S. D. Kaveeshvar, a recipient of President of India Award for his

outstanding contribution to Sanskrit and a great propagator of Sanskrit

passed away on Wednesday, 8th September, 2004. He was 77.

Pt. Kaveeshvar was closely associated with a number of educational

institutions, particularly those related to Sanskrit studies, in

Maharashtra and elsewhere. He was instrumental in establishing the

Kavikulaguru Kalidasa Sanskrit University at Ramtek, near Nagpur

(Maharashtra) and Somaiyya Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Mumbai. He worked

as a liaison officer for the Sanskrit Standing Committee of the State Govt.

of Maharashtra for several years and made continuous efforts to impress upon

the Govt. the importance of Sanskrit in the curricula of secondary schools

in Maharashtra.

Until the last day, he was engaged in his life mission. He died peacefully.

No serious disease, no hospitalization, no pains. Anaayaasena maraNam...

Many of us have lost a good, compassionate friend.

Shrikant Bahulkar

Prof. and Head,
