Guest guest
Dear list members, For the following sentences from Yogarajas commentary on the Paramarthasara (on page 146 of KSTS Paramarthasara) vakSyamANena krameNa yo vizvasya pratikSaNam abhedena parAhantApratyavamarzaH "so"'yam "asya japa uditaH" akRtrimatvena kathitaH | ko'sau? -- ityAha "bhuvanAvalIM samastAM" SaTtriMzattattvasamUhAntarvartinIM catvAriMzaduttarazatadvayasaMkhyAtAM prAkArapaGktiM niHzeSAm, tathA "tattvakramakalpanAm" iti "tattvakramasya" AtmavidyAzivAkhyasya "parikalpanAM" paricchedam, "athAkSagaNam" iti antarbahiSkaraNarUpam indriyasamUhaM ca-- . . . I've been given the following translation: What is the order of the prayer, this is answered by the author thus. Two hundred forty-four beads (constituting the garland of beads used for prayer) symbolise the thirty-six tattvas constituting the entire universe, the order of elements (tattvas) beginning from the limits of the atmavidya to the Siva and the group of all internal as well as external senses . . . But I can't see where the number 244 comes from. Shouldn't the translation of catvAriMzaduttarazatadvayasaMkhyAtAM be 240 instead of 244 ? Any clarification of this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Harry Harry Spier 371 Brickman Rd.
