Guest guest
This is for Vishal Agarwal, could I get a copy of the Japanese Ramayana on DVD? What is the price of one DVD? Smarth vishalsagarwal <vishalsagarwal wrote: This is a very beautiful animated version of Ramayana - the animations as well as the dialogs are both excellent. It is suitable for middle school children and can be used as an effective tool for introducing Ramayana to other age categories as well, certainly more than the politically loaded versions of Comrade Anand Patwardhan that are used in schools here. It is a pity that the VCD has not been marketed well enough. It is in English but in between there are a few sections in poetical Hindi, some from (or rather based upon) Ramacharitmanas and some in modern Khari Boli (there are no English subtitles in the copy I have, but since they are more of digressions, the absence of subtitles should not deter the unfamiliar viewer). The Hindi portions in Sundarkanda and Setubandhana are very moving. Dialog delivery is by Indian voices, and very well done. Some contemporary themes are also interspersed in the narrative. Apparently, when the Japanese team was making this version, they approached a wide spectrum of Hindu orgs and leaders, and were approved by all. I can get you a copy of the VCD gratis in 6 weeks, in case you are interested. Other list members in the US who want copies may also send me a personal email.
