Part II of Courtright's Ganesa is now up at

http://sulekha.com/expressions/articledesc.asp?cid=307053

There is one error of printing - the following para, at the end of

section 3.2, appears to be a quotation from Courtright's book when in

fact it is a part of the main text of our review -

"Likewise, under the subject 'The Tusk'[154], all kinds of

disjointed, unrelated, disparate Pauranic narratives are brought

together in an artificial manner to lay the ground for discussions on

beheading, decapitation, amorous play and all such sexual, Freudian

stuff in Chapter III. Ignored of course are the mystical, spiritual

interpretations of his single tusk (e.g., Mudgala Purana 2.52.13-14)

wherein the tusk is related to maayaa."

The footnotes are available this time, and some may need

clarification because the footnotes of Part II often rely on those of

Part I.

Sincerely,

Vishal Agarwal
