Assuming that "Dravidian" refers to a race, most north Indias must have some Dravidian blood, even those belonging to "high" castes. A lot of South Indians (not just Brahmins) must have "Aryan" blood. Indian culture is to a large degree is a synthesis of the Aryan and Dravidian elements. >The general script of the Aryan languages is different from the > general script of Dravidian languages. Scripts in both North and South are related, all being descendants of Brahmi. >North Indians are Aryans and south Indians are Dravidians. But this >division isn't proper because of many reasons. In the past the "South" Dakshinapatha (the Dravida country) used to include Gujarat and Maharashtra. The North/South division is very approximate. The languages spoken in five states of >south India are considered Dravidian languages and >most of the languages spoken in the north are considered > Aryan languages. The general script of the Aryan languages >is different from the general script of Dravidian languages. All the Indian language scripts are of the same origin, and many letters look similar to their Semitic prototypes. The 70:30 % of division Aryan and Dravidian language speakers tells the present situation. Listening to World Population Council report of the year 2002, North India's fertility rate is about 5 and South India, more literate and into computers heavily, has a fertility rate of about 2. (1.8 for Tamil Nadu and Kerala). But in ancient times, acc. to Indologists, the ratio of Aryan:pre-Aryan languages was just the reverse. In the Indus era civilization, the Aryan language speakers were not the dominant factor. Only in post-Indus era, Aryans migrated in. Ingressing in waves, their numbers were rather small. Large number of Dravidians were co-opted, and the elite dominance theory is used by Indologists for the vanishing of pre-Aryan languages in North India. Regards, N.
