Hello, all. I am from New Delhi, India. I have been a medical

professor but have recently changed to law. I am curious about

two things right now:

1. How come that Dominik, probably from Sweden, has started

Indology list? It is a welcome surprise.

2. I am curious to know why Indus valley script has not been

decoded so far in spite of great advances in information

technology, development of supercomputers and, recently, even

demonstartion of teleportation in an Australian laboratory. Have

there been enough and serious international efforts, including by

UNESCO?

Even assuming Dominik is from Sweden, what is so surprising about it?

If you write 100 names of well-known Indologists over the last 200

years, only a handful would be from the Indian subcontinent.

Indology ,as a humanistic-rationalistic discipline has not had many

takers in India.

The chief reason is

a. absense of languages in India or abroad which are definitely known

to be descendent of IVC language/script.

b. Absense of a bi/tri lingual inscription with IVC language as one

of them, along with other deciphered languages.

c. Absense of insciptions in sufficient quantity (in 1000s? or

10,000s?) to try different algorithms and come up with a fit.

The Indus inscriptions occur in their 1000s over a very wide

area, in fact that bronze age culture occupies the maximum

area than any other. That's not the problem.

Those inscriptions are extremely short, the average being

only 5 letters.

Prof. Asko Parpola has written in many articles and books that the high Indus

culture

was most likely Dravidian. Parpola's classic , Deciphering the

Indus script is worth reading.

In any case, Aryans and the Vedic culture were not present

in the IVC Harappan age. Prof. Michel Witzel's summary essay:
