Indeed very true. The ARAyirappaDi vyAkyanam is dense with words to convey the

feelings of the Almighty.

One such sentence:

sri krshNA to gOpikAs:

"ippadi nammODEa vuRavu sollA ninREgOL! vungaLai gopigaigaLAgavum, nammai

gOvindhanagavum ippOdhanROA solliRRu.

nammai adiyilEa marumathilEa thottu vaithu mEalum adhilEa nadandhu vandhu,

kAriya kAlam AnavAREA vAlai kuzhaithu "gOvindhA" ennA ninREgOlEA! ennAkki

vidaRku" enRAn.

Lord addressing to the gOpikAs - All along You have been calling me formal

names. Only now that the climax is to crystallize and the desire is to be

fulfilled you are curling your tails and addressing me 'gOvindhA"

Aptly conveying the feelings of the Lord - again the pinnancle of saulabyam

is it not?

The divine arthas given by andal in the “karavaigal pin sendru” paasuram are

really extraordinary. Thiruppavai is considered to be “vedam anaiththukkum

viththu” (the seed that grows the Vedas). No wonder that each paasuram is

flooded with so many divine meanings. Each and every word deserves pages and

pages of explanations that have been beautifully elaborated eminently by our

poorvacharyas. Limited to our knowledge and time we have been enjoying just

few drops from that outstanding divine ocean. So half-heartedly adiyen

continues with explaining just a single part in this paasuram, though the whole

paasuram is really avid. Adiyen’s sincere request to all bhagavatas is please

do try to go through the thiruppavai commentary atleast once in your life time

else you are sure to miss a great treasure.

(ariyAdha pillaigalOm anbinAl vunthannai sirupEr azhaiththanavum seeri arulAdhE)

Andal said “kurai vondrumillAdha govinda” and “koodArai vellum seer govinda”

that got immense pleasure to the divine hearts of krishna. But then he

questioned, “Oh! Andal now you are calling me with the name that is very dear

to me but why did you initially call me with other names?” What are the other

names krishna is referring to? It is really amazing that here krishna is

referring to that very thirunamam that has been greatly adorned by the sastras

“nArayanan”. Even by the number of letters “govinda” is only less but how did

“narayana” become “sirupEr” (small name). It is small in the heart of krishna.

“Narayana” may show his paratvam but not his sowlabhyam. Only to show his

sowlabhyam did emperuman leave all his joy in his divine abode and takes

avatara as krishna amidst the gopalas and became govindan. The greatest

crowning for krishna was the “govinda pattabhishekam”. He was not satisfied

even being crowned the king of ayodhya by all the maharishis but he was elated

to be crowned as “govindan” in front of the gopalas.

Understanding the divine feeling of krishna andal says, “Oh! Lord due to the

immense love we have towards you we don’t know what we are really talking and

hence we have called you as narayana earlier but now we apologize for our

ignorance. Elders with big heart forgive the small mistakes of innocent folks;

won’t you forgive and forget our mistakes?

Arjuna also apologized for calling krishna with small names. What were they?

“sakEthi matvA prasabham yadhuktham hEy krishna! HEy yAdhava! hEy sakEthi!

ajAnathA mahimAnam tavEmam mayA pramAdhAth pranayEna vApiII”

Arjuna perplexed by having the divine vishavaroopa darisanam considers calling

parthasarathi earlier as “krishna, yAdhava etc” to be a big mistake. But in the

case of andal, she surrendered to the divine lord considered him to be the upaya

and upEya and due to her deep bhakthi the name narayana, the indication of the

lord’s paratvam was small and govinda that indicated his sowlabhyam the apt

name.
