Dear Sree Vaishnava Perunthagaiyeer

Adiyen has been advised our acharya swami (Mudhaliyandan Swamigal)

that Adiyen shall say "adiyen Raamanuja Dasan" whenever we happen to

do namaskarams (sevikkumpothu). Adiyen noticed one of the group

female member writes as "Ramanuja DAsee" which one is correct?

Ramanuja Dasan is common to both gender or Ramanuja DAsee for female?

Adiyen shall continue to write as Ramanuja Dasan till suitable

clarification is received.

thanks and regards

Adiyen ramanuja dasan

Dear Bhagavathas,

Unfortunately the word 'Dasi' has other connotations. In order to avoid

confusion it is better to use the word 'Sevika' or 'Shishyaa'.

Dear swAmin(i)s,

Maybe we can use dAsin for female as parallel to dAsan for male.

Srimathe Lakshminarasimha Para Brahmane Namaha !

Dear Bhagavathas,

It is quite interesting to note the various thoughts emanating on the subject .

In my humble opinion , when one has reached a stage of calling himself / herself

, as a devotee of some one instead of other normal worldly identity , then

gender should not bother. We are all supposed to be the female partners of

Sriman Narayanan , since He is the only Purushothaman. As such the term " dasan"

should be applicable well for both males and females alike. In my opinion , "

Dasan" is used to indicate submissive attitude of a person , whether male or

female. So one should be proud to call oneself " Dasan" , without attaching any

gender to it. Trust every one will agree.

Adiyen, Ramanuja dasan- G.Sampath.

Om Namo Narayanaya,

Dasa is Male, Dasi is female in Snskrit language.

So using Dasa for male and Dasi for female is fine from my opinion.

Dear Bhagavatas:

This discussion has been going on for too long.

The best solution is to consult our Acharyas.

It is beeter to avoid speculations and personal opinions.

This will be the last posting on the subject, unless someone comes up with

anauthoritative instruction from our Acharyas.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Dear Swamin(i)s,

In our culture, we have many male devotees with dasa suffix

Kabir Das

Tulasi Das

Sur Das

Purandara Dasaru

Kanaka Dasaru

Dasan of adiyen-Dasan (Popular among Srivaishnavas)

and rarely such a suffix for female devotees

(Meera Bai, Akka Mahadevi, Avvayar etc)

Thus we are inventing the norms here.

We have a great opportunity to do it in the most appropriate way.

Given that opportunity, why create confusion by using Dasan for women?

There is one Naidu Amma, a man with female name.

That is confusing enough.

Some suggestions are:

Dasin

Sevaki

Dasi (Ramanuja Dasi)

Dasimati

Dasimani

Dasamma

Dasakka

Dasyarati

Dasya Ranjani
