Guest guest
Greetings All, Thought you might enjoy this poem by Swami Vivekananda. It's from The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 4, Translations: Poems. http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/index.htm The Hymn of Samadhi Lo! The sun is not, nor the comely moon, All light extinct; in the great void of space Floats shadow-like the image-universe. In the void of mind involute, there floats The fleeting universe, rises and floats, Sinks again, ceaseless, in the current "I". Slowly, slowly, the shadow-multitude Entered the primal womb, and flowed ceaseless, The only current, the "I am", "I am". Lo! 'Tis stopped, ev'n that current flows no more, Void merged into void — beyond speech and mind! Whose heart understands, he verily does. Warmest Regards, David M. Jnana yoga is about becoming established in the "thought of truth"; Bhagavan teaches us this traditional Jnana, and then assures us that the True Jnana is spontaneous and Self-Arising--and mercifully points us in the right direction. Guest guest
Wow, a beautiful poem. Thanks a lot for sharing.. Three things come to my mind upon seeing this: 1. Vivekananda's clear description of Samadhi in the section on Raja yoga, where he simply says Samadhi is perception without a target object (Objectless attention or pure awareness). Amazing directness of this definition strikes me. 2. I was amused to see that he wrote in this description: The only current, the "I am", "I am" repeating "I am" twice, strikingly similar to Ramana's description of Atma Sphurana as the 'I-I' (including in his famous EkaSloki) Hrdaya Kuhara Madhyae Kevalam Brahma Matram Hi-Aham-Aham-Iti Atma rupena Bhaati In the cave of the Heart Brahman (Universal Spirit) alone As the feeling 'I-I' Shines as the Inner Self. There is a good thread on this in realization.org. When Ramana was asked why he used "I-I'" Ramana describes the Atma Sphuranam, the first glimpse of the pure I, as more like a pulse. 3. It is documented that Vivekananda got a forced glimpse of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (which he describes here) by the touch of his Master Ramakrishna - very similar to how Ramana gave It to Annamalai Swami in the famous ganja (opium) episode. Later, Ramakrishna told him, "Child! The key to this experience will now be hidden from you. You have lots of work to do in this world. When you have done all, you will gain access back to this." Vivekananda's entire life is a very moving reading. RamanaMaharshi, "dmcewen_1" <David.McEwen@l...> wrote: > > Greetings All, > > Thought you might enjoy this poem by Swami Vivekananda.
