---dear kynard,

Ome is always hesitant to recommend one's own book but I felt there was a need

for an up to date

non-dual free verse translation with a brief non-dual commentary [based on mmy

understanding of

Ramana in the main] of the Chief Upanishads chosen by Shankara, dusting off

archaisms and

dualistic interpretations .It is called the Principal Upanishads A Poetic

Transcreation and is

published by O Books .It follows the best translations previously made and is

faithful to the text

..Paperback.

Details can be seen on amazon or www.johnhunt-publishing.com

Alternatively , in my opinion,an excellent traditional one, is Sixty

Upanishads of the Veda by

Paul Deussen translated by Bedekar and Palsule. It is the largest English

Collection , quite

recent, with an exhaustive commentary .Deussen was an important Philosopher ,and

lover of the

Vedanta. The translation is fairly recent .

This can be obtained from Motilal Banarsidass ,Delhi .It is 2 Vols. hardback and

more expensive

than most editions .Check their site through Google.

I trust this is of help .The Upanishads are glorious and wonderful for inspiring

contemplation on

the Advaitic Truth, and assisting one's understanding.

Every best wish , yours sincerely ,in His Grace,

Alan Jacobs

As a starting point, Patrick Olivelle's 'Upanisads' is a fairly good academic

translation, from the original Sanskrit, of the twelve 'main' Upanishads -

Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-282292-6. It adheres to the text and has

copious notes where ambiguities arise. Alternatively there is a wide choice of

translations (collections and single upanishads) which come out of Advaita

Ashrama (Ramakrishna Vedanta Mission), many taking account of traditional

commentaries. They are always worth a look.

Ever Yours in Sri bhagavAn,
