Dear VaishnavAs,

Hare Krishna. Dandavat Pranams!

Sri PerumbudUr is the Birth place of Our Foremost

Spiritual Preceptor Swami RAmAnujar. Every day,

several hundreds of pilgrims visit this great place.

During festivals, the number burgeons to several

thousands.

I am a congregational member of the Iskcon temple .By

the blessings of Sri RAmAnujar and the VaishnavAs. My

devotee friends and I have been performing PrasAda

Kainkaryam seva for the BhAgavathas who visit the

RAmAnujar

temple for the Thirunakshathram celebrations at Sri

Perumbudur for the last 10 years.

Every year, the festival falls in the month of May and

there are many VaishnavA organizations who perform

ThadhiyArAthana sevai for the grand 10-day festival.

During this festival, several thousands of VaishnavAs

visit Sri Perumbudur and especially on the last day,

there will be at least 20,000 pilgrims.

Sadly, at this place, there are no proper toilet

facilities for the visiting pilgrims and it is a great

struggle for the women and young children. The

piligrims

defecate around and near the temple premises. The

excreta causes uncleanliness and diseases. Besides the

poor hygiene, bad energy is created around the

sanctified compound.

The government has sanctioned financial assistance for

providing proper toilet facilities but the funds are

stuck at the subsidiary levels of the government

offices. No one can say for sure when this would be

released. Even upon a possible release, the amount

will not be fully spent and will surely pass through

many corrupt hands. The construction will not be of

any credible quality and worse still, maintenance

standards thereafter will be very low.

Our team members are ready to fund this project

..We can raise an amount of 1,00,000 rupees as an

initial sum for this important cause which would

facilitate the pilgrims. I have calculated the

approximate funds required and the range is from about

nearly 3,50,000 rupees to 4,00,000 rupees. With this

amount, we can build 8 lavatories and 4 bathrooms for

the gents and an equal number for the ladies.

Sri RAmAnujar Thirunakshathram festival commences on

the 3rd of May and goes on until 14th of May 2006. The

whole project can be completed in 25 days’ time. We

can even procur land from the temple or purchase a

small piece of land near the temple .I am ready to

give our contributions to Ahobila mutt or VAnamAmalai

mutt or ParakAla mutt or Chinna Jeeyar Swami mutt or

Kinchitkaram Trust(Sri Velukudhi swami) or any other

vaishnava organization

that can raise the balance and

oversee the construction and maintenance of this

project.

With the blessings of the Lord and the devotees, I

will also try to raise more funds to the best of my

capacity. It would be very nice if every VaishnavA

member can contribute or support this cause to the

best of his/her ability .If need be, I can take care

of the maintenance of the toilets and bathrooms by

employing the locals with a monthly salary and ensure

that the facilities are maintained with the utmost

cleanliness.

I would like to mention that in Srivilliputhtur the Rotary club has provided

toilet facilities when you come out of the temple and proceed along the street

and turn right. Perhaps they can do so in other holy places also.

SrI:

Dear Sri Venkatesh Sarangan :

Many thanks for your kind offer of help

to support this important project in the avathAra

Sthalam of Bhagavath RaamAnuja .

Sriman Manoram Chaitanyadas of Chennai will be meeting with

Sriman Sudarshan of Kuwait/Chennai to work out the details of the project

at the end of this week . adiyEn will keep all posted because of

the importance of participation in this project and be of service

to the many devotees that visit SriperumbhUthur and particularly

the helples sladies and children as well as older people .

By copy of this note , adiyEn is requesting overseas bhakthAs

to be generous with their support of this project . adiyEn will

keep you posted on how the assembled funds can be sent to India.

The most important issue is close supervision on ground to make sure

that all the funds are protected and 100% goes to the project and

is supervised until completion . Sri Manoram Chaitanyadas will be

undertaking this important task and we can feel safe on that point .

He is fully familar with the Indian scene based on his many kaimkaryams

as a devoted Sri VaishNavar .

Let me highlight the importance of this project in contrast to

the other Kaimkaryams at Dhivya dEsams that we have undertaken

together (AabharaNa SamarpaNam , NithyArAdhanam support et al) .

Few years back , adiyEn with the help of other

BhakthAs of Bhagavath RaamAnuja made a samarpaNam

of ThridhaNDam for the archaa ThirumEni of Bhagavath

RaamAnuja at Sri PerumbhUthur and a SaThAri ( MudaliyANDAn)

for Bhagavath RaamAnuja Sannidhi at ThirunArAyaNapuram .

Later adiyEn learnt that the ThridhaNDam presented by all of

us with devotion joined the many ThridhaNDams that are in

the safe boxes there . At ThirunArAyaNapuram , the consecrated

SaThAri was considered too big ( TamilnAdu Version: actually

the Dimensions of that SaTHAri was the same as the one presented by

Dr.M.A.VenkatakrishNan Swamy to Lord ParthasArathy at ThiruvallikkENi).

The archakAs preferred to use the smaller SathAri since they were

uncomfortable with the big sized SaThAri and left the big SaThAri stay

inside Bhagavath RaamAnujA's sannidhi as an aabharAnam

without being taken out and used daily .

The only samarpaNam that worked out is the presentatation of

2 Silver Vattils for Daily ThiruvArAdhanam for Lord ThirunArAyaNan.

Those are being used daily .

When we look at all these events , it is comforting to know that

sevai for BhagavAn and Bhagavath RaamAnuka inside trhe temple

is consistent with the guidance of our AchAryAs .

In addition to such Kaimkaryams , it is clear that we have to think

of the physical comfort of the throngs of devotees , who visit

famous dhivya dEsams like Sri PerumbhUthUr . Physical hygiene

and privacy are issues of serious concern .

Please support this project to create the toilet facilities at

Sri PerumbhUthur and send me a private note about any support

that you can give . I will brief you on how to transmit those funds

collected

from USA and elsewhere to join those assembled by Sriman Sudarshan of

Kuwait .

Sri Bhagavath RaamAnuja CharaNou SaraNam PrapadhyE ,

RaamAnuja Daasan , V.Sadagopan

P.S : When we think about the great help given by TTD at Thirumala

to help the throngs of visitors of every age and fitness , one develops

an appreciation for the need to pay attention to such areas of personal

hygiene and sanctity . Clearly , They go together .

Swamin:

adiyen vinnappam is that, presenting aabharanams, vessels for daily

rituals are due only to the divya desam where it is required and in

divya desam(s) where some help is needed.

Swamins mail brings little confusion of doing aabharana kaiankaryams

to divya desams.

Only the poor child is needed and required to look after for its well

being. The rich child will be looked after by many. The good example

is: son of a king will be looked after by many persons since he is

the Prince. Whereas an ordinary persons son has to be looked after

only by their parents.

Some of divya desams are in backward conditions, where help is needed

in any form of kainkaryams. So in some of the divya desams, care and

help has to be done by bhagavathAs for its well being and maintenance.

If aabharana samarpanams, vessels, vastra samarpanam are done to those

desams, its really a great kainkaryam, where HE is looking for

bhagavathaas to look after HIM (actually HE is looking after us and

care for us!!!).

If there is any mistake in adiyens mail, adiyen requests to forgive

it...

Dear swAmin,

Why should you assume that the two kinds of 'kainkaryam' are

mutually exclusive? One can strive to accomplish both, can't one?

Both are equally worthy causes, aren't they?

Also, what makes you so sure the Lord will appreciate an offering

of "aabharaNams" and "vastrams" from devotees far more than He will

accept a toilet-facility to be built at his Abode on earth? In my

dictionary, an offering of "aabharaNam" to the Almighty

is "bhagavath-kainkaryam". An offering to the Lord that takes the

form of a "kainkaryam" to build a toilet-facility for the temple at

Perumbudur is "bhaagavatha-kainkaryam". Both are equally pleasing to

the Almighty. At least that's what the SriVaishnva faith says,

doesn't it?

One is no inferior or superior to the other. And in today's

conditions prevailing at Sri Perumbudur temple and as well as at

many other temples in T.Nadu, I daresay a public lavatory for

pilgrims is as necessary and essential as a "mUtthAngi"

or "vairAngi" for the Deity.

Regards,

dAsan,

Sudarshan

Dear Swamin:

Pranams to you:

As swamin said, both kainkaryams are important. Infact, a

vaishnavite has to do both bhagavath as well as bhaagavatha

kainkaryam. If there is any mistake again adiyen makes

humble pranams to bhakthas and bhaagavathaas of HIM.

NOT ONLY the toilet facilities has to be done. Now-a-days,

most of the pushkarini's of the divya desams are in bad

conditions. Most of divyadesams, the nearby peoples makes

the theertham (pushkarini) in bad conditions by washing their

clothes, excreta around or on the steps of pushkarini, throwing

household-wastages either inside or near the pushkarinis.

These spoils the punyam of pushkarinis and makes the situation

worse to take holy dip.

Recently steps has been taken in Parthasarathy temple, Triplicane

and they build fence around the pushkarini, and they allow

the bhakthaas only during certain time. This similar things

has to happen in other divyadesams too. To the fact adiyen felt

happy when sees the info. about building lavatory at Sriperumbudur.

Infact adiyen is also regular visitor of bhagavath Ramanujar.

Definitely by the grace of kArEi karunai muni rAmAnujar, this

work would be completed sucessfully.
