Guest guest
What is the mind? If one searches to find out, then there would be no separate entity as the mind. This is the straight path. This verse and the subsequent four verses contain the very core of Ramana's teachings. The Vichara Marga or the path of self-enquiry is set out. In the other spiritual practices the mind is assumed to be an independent entity, and efforts are made to control it, purify it and channel it Godward. The mind can play many a game on us. It will not commit harakiri. The moment the mind is regarded as a separate entity, 'the thief, the mind, would have turned into the policeman to catch the thief that is itself.' Ramana questions this assumption that the mind is an indepedent identity. In the subsequent verse He points out that what is termed as the mind is only a conglomeration of thoughts, which can arise only if individuality or the 'I'-thought, arises. They are dependent on it and cannot exist save in relationship to it. The mind is reduced to a single thought, the fulcrum 'I'-thought. Vigilant and persistent enquiry as to its source tracks it back to its source, the Heart, where it merges ... ~~~~~~~~~~~ A.R.
