I have some questions and want to say upfront that I am asking these sincerely and not sarcastically.... No matter how it seems to read. Is anyone forcing V away? Is spirituality only represented by the warm and fuzzy? Does everyone need to tiptoe around afraid to say anything because someone might take it wrong? I haven't seen a post on the list that would suggest anything but a warm hospitable environment. How delicate does it have to be and at what point is it simply reinforcing someone's ego to constantly stroke it? I personally feel that there should be a certain robustness of character to balance out the sensitivities that arise when one takes the spiritual path. A kind of thicker skin that allows the person who is rubbing you the wrong way a chance to make themselves understood before reacting... Sometimes it is simply a problem of understanding the other persons mannerisms and use of language and what annoys is not any kind of real threat, but simply discordant with your own mannerisms. I am curious what Advaita Vedanta's stance is on this. (In the sense of how are they addressed in the ashrams or communities?) Perhaps this post will rub some the wrong way... It's not my intent. I've studied several different paths for 25+ years now and have seen this particular problem rear its head everywhere. Paul
Guest guest
Yes, I tried to do to my best ability, Alton, but it was too less and it did not work. She did go away despite of my honestly apologize. We will not have this beautiful Ramana postings anymore and I feel the guilt and shame to be the reason for this and having deprived her from her list friends and did not give enough love. It's a drama - the drama of the shattered i. > Dear Gabriele: > I feel for the suffering of even my enemies, if I have any. > All I would ask for is that we communicate to each other with love > and when someone is obviously not able to do that then the others > would hopefully understand and give as much love as they can muster. > I good thing I try to keep in mind is what would Ramana do. Guest guest
Dear Gabriele: Please do not feel responsible. Viorica will recover, come back here and all will be well. The drama goes on. If you would have apologized and said the matter is finished, someone else might have ticked her off. It was all in her and it will leave the way is came. This happens to all of us. Guest guest
Dear All, I have noticed something in myself and other seekers (and others) that I now call an "ego-storm." This is a time when the attachment with ego is great, and ego is making much noise. One of the blessings of the teaching of Ramana is that it provides us with new ways to respond to these ego-storms. As soon as one starts asking, "For whom is this?" the seeker starts the disidentification. This disidentification brings about a greater sense of freedom and inner peace. In the ego-storm, if one responds on the same level, what usually happens is greater identification with ego, which brings no relief. We can learn to use these as an important part of our practice. In these cases, often it happens that we are shown attachments that are strong and which we may not otherwise notice. What an opportunity! When you learn to look more deeply, any sense of division, separation, fear or such comes from the ego-I. All of this becomes fodder for practice. The wonder of Self-inquiry is that finally the seeker does not need to remove ALL identifications, rather just one (the identification with the ego-I -- which some say is the same as identification with mind). If is funny about this ego-I. It seems so strong, but as one gets to know it better, one finds out that it is merely another habit of mind. How strong is that? Guest guest
Yes I see, dear Alton, I hear you. I am glad for your care and love, so we can let it at this now, let the egos silence down and wait and need not discuss further. Things need their time and silence to go by and we can wait and see and have patience whith each other and meanwhile we can listen to the teaching of Sri Ramana and let the teaching work in us. Perhaps a very good chance, perhaps a learning process for many of us. Well, one can also see it positively - as an unique chance. And as a side effect there have appeared some new faces here onlist with deep devotion, earnesty and insights, which is very moving.
