In the RamayaNa, it is mentioned that Lord Hanuman frees the Navagrah Devatas from the captivation of RavaN, who had tied them to the stairs leading to his throne. Pleased by this, Shani Deva gives a boon to Hanumanji that, whoever worships Hanumanji (in the form of VeerAnjanEya ) on Saturdays (the day attributed to Shani), will be saved from Shani's wrath. 2. Worshipping Hanumanji on Saturdays has a very deep spiritual significance according to the Karma kAnd. Shani dEva gives hardships to human beings not becoz he enjoys doing so, but to help them reduce their Sanchita Karma (accumulated sins); he only purifies us and force the egoistic individual to turn his attention to spirituality. When nArada maharshi requested maharshi VyAsa to embedd the core essence of all the Vedas and Shastras, vyAsa said thus: "parOpakArAya puNyAya pApAya parapIdanam" (meaning: self-less service is puNya; harming others is sin) Hanumanji is the epitome of selfless service (nishkAm sEva), devotion (bhakti), austerity (vairAgya), purity (puNya) and many such virtues. By worshipping him, we too acquire His qualities (yadbhAvam tadbhavathi). This is the essence of worship. Thus a devotee of Hanumanji abstains himself from sinful acts and turns Shani dEv's wrath into bliss. 3. It is to be noted that apart from saturday, tuesday is also very auspicious for Hanumanji's worship as per Lord Ram's boon. In fact, all the 7 days are auspicious since, Hanumanji has boon from every single god in the creation. Tuesday is auspicious to get rid of "kuj dosh". I have some serious objections for drawing a parallel between worship and shopping. Worship is always "internal" while shopping is a worldy activity. All those who visit a temple need not be true devotees. I am pretty sure, no God is crying for followers !!!!. I am deeply pained by the statement "They also love to worship Lord Krishna in spite of his so called 'amorous' ways ". In BhArath, people have taken unfair advantage of social freedom and due to their ignorance, are distorting the very concept of God. Lord Krishna was a great scholar of the Vedas and very austere in conduct. He was a great yogi who gave the Gita to mankind. IS THERE ANY ONE WHO CAN QUOTE ME A SINGLE INSTANCE WHERE THE LORD HAS BEEN 'AMOROUS' ?. We should make a sincere effort to rightly understand this often misunderstood historical character, for our own good. regards SriHanuman, "Sandeep" <doktersandy> wrote: > Why is Lord HANUMAN worshipped on saturdays? > > Well, Saturday is the day dedicated to 'shani' bhadwan or > the 'saturn' planet !
