HariH Om:

Traditionally, Gita Satsang always begins with the Gita Dhyana Sloka and let

us take a moment to recite the Gita Dhyan Sloka:

AUM paarthaaya pratibodhitaaM bhagavataa naaraayaNena svayaM

vyaasena grathitaaM puraaNamuninaa madhye mahaabhaaratam.h .

advaitaamR^itavarshhiNiiM bhagavatiimashhTaadashaadhyaayiniiM

amba tvaamanusandadhaami bhagavadgiite bhavedveshhiNiim.h

Om. O! Mother Bhagavad Gita!- with which, Partha was enlightened by Lord

Narayana Himself, which was composed and placed in the middle of the

Mahabharata by the ancient Sage Vyasa. which showers the nectar (philosophy)

of Non-duality, which is glorius, which contains eighteen chapters, and which

is an antidote to the experience of change (samsara), I constantly meditate

upon Thee.

namo.astu te vyaasa vishaalabuddhe phullaaravindaayatapatranetra .

yena tvayaa bhaaratatailapuurNaH prajvaalito GYaanamayaH pradiipaH

Salutation unto thee, O! Vyasa, whose intellect is vast, whose eyes are as

large as the petals of a full-blown lotus, by whom was lighted the lamp of

wisdom and the full essence of the Mahabharata.

prapannapaarijaataayatotravetraikapaaNaye .

GYaanamudraaya kR^ishhNaaya giitaamR^itaduhe namaH

Salutation to Krishna, who holds a cane in one hand and a jnanamudra (in the

order), who is the Tree-of-fulfillment (Parijat) to all those who surrender

unto Him, who has milked the nectar Gita.

sarvopanishhado gaavo dogdhaa gopaala nandanaH .

paartho vatsaH sudhiirbhoktaa dugdhaM giitaamR^itaM mahat.h.

All the Upanishads are cows, the son of the cowherd is the milker, Partha is

the calf, the man of pure intellect is the enjoyer and the supreme nectar of

Gita is the milk.

vasudevasutaM devaM ka.nsachaaNuuramardanam.h .

devakiiparamaanandaM kR^ishhNaM vande jagad.hgurum.h

I solute to Lord Krishna, the divine son of Vasudeva, the destroyer of Kamsa

and Canura, the supreme bliss of Devaki, the Teacher of the Universe.

bhiishhmadroNataTaa jayadrathajalaa gaandhaaraniilotpalaa

ashvatthaamavikarNaghoramakaraa duryodhanaavartinii

sottiirNaa khalu paaNDavai raNanadii kaivartakaH keshavaH

The battle-river-with Bhisma and Drona as its banks, with Jayadratha as its

water, with the King of Gandhara as the blue water-lily, with Salya as the

shark, Kripa as its current, Karna as its high waves, with Asvathama and

Vikarna as terrible crocodiles, Duryodhana as its whirlpool-was indeed crossed

over by the Pandavas with Lord Kesava as the ferry-man.

paaraasharyavachaH sarojamamalaM giitaarthagandhotkaTaM

naanaakhyaanakakesaraM harikathaasambodhanaabodhitam.h .

loke sajjanashhaT.hpadairaharahaH pepiiyamaanaM mudaa

bhuuyaadbhaaratapaN^kajaM kalimalapradhva.nsi naH shreyase

May the spotless lotus of Mahabharata-which is born in the lake of the words

of Parasara's son (Vyasa), which is rich with the fragrance of the import of

Gita which has many narratives as its filaments, which teaches in details the

story of Lord Hari, which is joyously drunk day after day by bees who are good

and pure men, which is the destroyer of the imperfections of Kali-Age-- bring

about supreme good to us.

muukaM karoti vaachaalaM paN^guM laN^ghayate girim.h .

yatkR^ipaa tamahaM vande paramaanandamaadhavam.h

By your blessings, a mute becomes talative and a lame climbs a mountain, O!

Eternally Blissfull Madhava! I offer my salutations.

yaM brahmaa varuNendrarudramarutaH stunvanti divyaiH stavaiH

vedaiH saaN^gapadakramopanishhadairgaayanti yaM saamagaaH .

dhyaanaavasthitatadgatena manasaa pashyanti yaM yogino

yasyaantaM na viduH suraasuragaNaa devaaya tasmai namaH

Salutation to that God whom Brahma, Varuna, Indra, Rudra and Marut praise with

divine hymns, whom the singers of Sama Veda invoke by the Vedas along with the

related branches of knowledge and the Upanishads, whom the Yogis see with

their minds focused on Him in meditation, whose limit the Devas and Assuras do

not know.

Sarvadharmaanparityajya maamekam sharanamvraja

Aham tvaa sarvapaapebhyo mokshayishyaami maa shuchah

Abondoning all duties, come to Me alone for shelter. Be not grieved for

I shall release thee from all evils.
