I prepared the following note yesterday but could not

post it until today. Thanks.

------------------

Today (10/13/94) is Swami Sri dEsikan's thiru nakshatthiram.

His thirukkumaarar sri Varadhaachaariyaar (SN: sri

nayinaaraachaaryar) composed a prabhandham

consisting of 20 pasurams called piLLaiyandhaathi

(PA). This prabhandham has many embedded

references to iraamaanusa nooRRandhaathi (INA).

These are pointed out by sri raamadEsikaachariar

in his "sri dEsika pirabhandham" published by LIFCO.

Here are just a few:

INA(1) and PA(1):

-----------------

INA: poomannu maadhu porundhiya maarban

PA: maamalar manniya mangai magizhnthurai maarban

(poomannumaadhu = maamalar manniya mangai = periya piraatti

porundhiya maarban = magizhnthurai maarban = our Lord)

INA: paamannu maaRan adipaNinthu uynthavan

PA: thollaruL maaRan thuNai adikkeezh vaazhvai ugakkum

iraamanusa muni vaNmai pORRum .... thooppul piLLai.

(INA says Sri Raamaanuja achieves uyvu at the

thiruvadi of paamannu maaRan (nammaazhvaar). PA

takes where INA leaves off and says, swami sri

dEsikan (thooppul piLlai) praises the greatness of

Ramanuja who is at the thuNai adi (feet) of

thollaruL maaRan (nammaazhvaar).

INA (35) PA (11)

----------------

INA: maanidatthaip 'puyalE' enak kavi pORRiseyyEn

PA: kaRpagamE enRu kaasiniyOraik kathikkamaattEn

(Here, both thiruvarangatthu amudhanaar (TA:author

of INA) and our SN resolve not to praise mundane beings.

INA (107) PA (18)

-----------------

INA: un thoNdargatkE anbuRRu irukkumpadi ennai

aakki angu aatpadutthE

PA: iru kaiyum kooppi uraikkum ivviNNappam ...

eNNum un thoNdaraiyE

(Both TA and SN want to be loving to the adiyaars

of their respective lords. This, of course, is a

recurring theme among sri vaishnavaas.)

Please refer to the LIFCO book for other

similiarities that sri ramadEsikaachaariar points

out. Both INA and PA are sweet compositions

sure to fill our hearts with love for two of our

greatest acharyaas. Both INA and PA are composed in

kattaLaikkallitthurai format.
