priya Athma bAndhavAh,

When once the guru has passed the manthra by sakthipAtha order,

that mantra will penetrate into the body, mind and prAna of the siShya and

begins to dominate all of the possessions of the siShya. Then the siShya will

be called as sreemath or sreemanth.

That manthra becomes visible to him in his prAna sakthi in the

form of the deity as he is desiring and describing in a DhyAna sloka. That

vision is none other than his own self, appearing to him avertedly, because he

is longing to see his own image. That is why it shows itself as an image in the

mirror. So it is called the “pratyak+Athma”. This pratyagAthma is having full

control over the five senses of the sAdhaka, dragging them all towards him and

making the sAdhaka a perfect self possessed and a strong willed DhErah (“kaschid

dhErah pratyagAthmAnamaikshat”)

The lion (simha) has got another name ‘panchAnanam’. This can be

interpreted as not only having control over the five senses (faces), but as

pancha brahmas also, as all of them were described as pancha preithas. Because

of this manthra (prAna) sakthi all of those five become activated and the

sAdhaka will say “ayam Athma brahma” i.e., this pratyagAthma is the soul of

brahma
