Devi Upasakar Sri Ganapathi has sent a beautiful message on the power of Maya and how only Her Grace can free us from the illusion (Moha). I thank him for the message on behalf of all the members of our group. Even Jnanis, who have performed tapas for several yugas, cannot claim to be free of Devi's influence. Only the Absolute Reality is free from Her influence. But even there, we are taught that Devi is inseparable from the Absolute Reality. Even the greatest exponent of Advaita, Sri Sankaracharya has affirmed the concept of Siva-Sakti Aikyam. When Maha Swami says that it is waste of time to think of Advaita, it should be understood in proper perspective. It is not that the doctrine of Advaita is to be eschewed. By its very nature the Advaita relates to a situation when 'I' is not there. If it is referred to as a sort of culmination of sadana, when the sadaka has already lost himself absolutely, Advaita does not lend itself as something of a practice or experience. When 'I' am 'thinking' of Advaita, the Advaitic situation obviously does not exist. When I am engaged in a sadana, Advaita seems to be a distant dream! Something may not be within my grip right now or may be impossible of practice. This does not make it impossible as a 'siddhanta'. We should go on and on with our sadana. As Sri Ganapathi has rightly pointed out, this may be a matter of several janmas. This sadana is something that is 'given' to us. If I am a devotee of Siva or Sri Krishna, it is something 'given' to me. What Maha Swami has said is, 'go ahead with what you have, without unduly pondering about Advaita condition'. One who is a real bhakta of Sri Krishna would never claim to have acquired his bhakti, by his own effort. If he does, he cannot be a real bhakta. It is He Who blesses us with a spiritual thirst and guides us from within. In Tamil, we call Him as 'Iyavul' meaning 'One who makes us function from within'. As regards bhakti, Sri Manickavachakar has also said, 'Avan Arulaale Avan thaal vananki' meaning 'worshipping Him because of His Grace' Even in Devi Upasana, Abirama Bhattar would say, 'padmapadayugam choodum pani enakke adaithanai, ullathu azhukkai ellam nin arutpunalaal thudathanai' (You made me worship your sacred feet and You made my heart pure by the sacred water of Your Grace.) When you practice 'Upasana', naturally you are not in advaitic condition. If only you are to attain advaita situaion, 'you' have disappeared already; because, it is a position of complete oneness and there is no question of 'I'. In this peculiar situation, I have no right to dispute or refute the siddhanta of Advaita also. I should not rush to refute that which is even theoretically not a matter of experience. If somebody has attained that condition, that 'somebody' is not there at all. Maha Swami has given this advice to 'us' to encourage 'us' to progress in our 'given' path. Let us all continue with our own 'given' sadana, eliminating as far as possible 'ahamkara' and 'mamakara'. All siddhantas and sampradayas are there like milestones. The same road may take me to place X, then to place Y and then to place Z. Somebody may tell me that the road goes to place X and somebody else may say that it leads to place Y. If only you are sure that you on the 'road' (sadana marga) because of His Grace, you would not be confused. You would concentrate only in your progress in the 'given' path. Appar Swamigal said, 'En kadan pani cheidu kidappade' (My duty is only to carry on with what has been 'given' or 'assigned' to me.)
