Guest guest
Dear Sri Raviji and Ganapatiji, Thanks for giving some valuable suggestions to the group. I wish to add some thoughts on this subject. As a beginner to sadhana, I would totally agree with what you said about the effective approach for reciting naamavaLi (or any spiritual exercise). However, after following those precautions and practicing the sadhana for days/months/years, one may begin to feel that there is more in the mantra (naamavaLi) than what the translations and commentaries provide. This is because the sadhak's state of mind undergoes transformation in the form of refinement as the sadhana advances; s/he would begin to ask Mata for more - something difficult to be expressed in words - and the translation/commentary is a play of words. For that matter, it is generally accepted by many that the original (sanskrit) mantra is the most concise and complete rendition conveying the purpose/subject of the sadhana, and no translations/commentaries can reach the depth of it. The translations are for the beginner to whom the understanding of meaning from the translation/commentary is useful in providing an initial direction. They may also be useful to keep a check if the sadhak feels confused or finds the mind to drift away from Mata. Nevertheless, if the aspirant, in the middle of the naamavaLi, has lost her/his consciousness of the world around (can I call it "ajapa"?) in the middle of sadhana, I think s/he is progressing the right way. Does s/he need to repeat the whole naamavaLi again and again.... I would think the aspirant would never be able to complete and would continue for ever until s/he gives up... Perhaps this is what happened in the case of ".....HH Jagadguru Chandra Sekhara Bharathi used to do the Lalitha sahasranama archana this way as indicated -- That is by dwelling into the inner meaning and HE used to contemplate on it till it gets " INTERNALISED " . HE used to start the LS archana at 6 Am in the morning and by the time he would complete it , it would be 8 PM..." (as told by Sri Ganapatiji in the previous posting on the same subject). Please excuse me if there is a mistake in my understanding. Any comments would be appreciated. Best Wishes, mahesh-- , "Ravisankar S.
