If one is concerned about declining performances

in 5K races, then it is best to continue running.

Specificity of training is important in all sports.

I

think there are a number of people out there, like me,

who did a lot of running while experiencing

lower-back problems, extremely tight muscles, and other

problems. In other words, running, knowing that it really

isn't doing much good for your well-being. You may be

maintaining your times in races, but you are only breaking

down the rest of your system.

The main

question for those in such a position is this--Am I

willing to sacrifice everything just to maintain my

racing times? In the long run, it is best to recognize

whether or not the running is still benefitting your

overall well-being.

I still love running, but

don't do it as much as before. I hope to regain my

flexibility, strengthen my lower back, and maybe I will go

back to training again for racing.

Marappu
