Here's some questions for those that have visited

Pattabhi Jois's shala. Just how intense is the practice

there? Are people still getting injured from overly

intense adjustments, or is this kind of thing rare these

days?

One yogi with experience at Jois's told

me that if I went to India as a beginner, Jois would

"break me apart." That is, not in a good way. I heard of

one lady getting her knee blown out because of Jois

stepping on it. On the other hand, a veteran told me of

how Jois stood on his legs while in baddha konasana;

after the agony, guruji offered: "no longer problem

with pose, however problem with walking for awhile,"

or something along those lines.

I wonder if

any of you have had such adjustments at the hands of

guruji or his assistants, and what your experience has

been pro or con.

All your questions are answered in a video

called:
Mysore,India : A day in the life of a yoga student. It can be

found on the net at www.ashtanga1.com.Mr. Sewell took a

camera inside PKJ's small studio and videotaped a day of

practice and adjustments for your benefit.

I

consider this mandatory viewing especially for women who

want to travel to Mysore and receive the blessed

teachings of PKJ.
